Food is edible but nothing special, largely yellow and greasy. You're clearly paying for the location, not even the view, and not for the quality of the food. In such a prestigious location I would have expected better presentation.

Maybe it's an unfair expectation to assume most places charge either nothing or very little for poppadum's, but seeing the pounds they cost here should have been enough of a warning to go elsewhere. A 10% service charge is automatically added to the bill too, which pushed a simple meal for 2 with one drink each and one shared nan... More

Been here before and cant fault the food......but! since our last visit the standards have dropped, tables resembled a canteen more than a Royal Mile restaurant which leads me onto my main concern, the price. Ridiculously expensive for what you get regardless of the food. Add ons like poppadums, naan breads etc fairly beef up the bill which has a... More

Came to this place around evening. We felt not welcoming as the staff seemed very rude and not interested at all in serving or even inviting us. They just threw the menu to our table and the same with cutlery. Food tasted bad and its not at all an indian place. They are just interested in billing and the staff... More

Food was good, but a bit pricey. Charging for the rice is always something that I will not understand. Charge for the food, but not for white rice. Restaurant could use a heating. Was a but cold in there.

Got there and sat down to a dirty plate and and cutlery. Ordered food then watched someone who works there nip out and get some chips from a local shop then walks in through the front door. £10 for 8 popadoms?!?!?!? £160 (including service charge) for 4 of us for main meals only and 3 drinks each. Wouldn't recommend waisting... More

This restaurant we have past by over the years, so it is well established, so we decided to visit early evening for a quick Indian meal. My wife and I both like Indian food and wondered why we hadn't ventured to the Bengal before. My wife ordered a particular favourite, Lamb Saag with Naan and I chose Chicken Tikka Biriani... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
