The food and service is excellent. The calamari is fantastic and it's good to eat somewhere which is so socially responsible. Will be coming back.

We go to Maison Bleue every time we're in Edinburgh. The food is consistently good, with great ambiance and service. Would highly recommend.

Arrived to a nice welcome, given a cosy corner to sit in with nice lighting and a warm buzz in the room. The service was great, an Italian girl served us and was wonderful, very attentive without being overbearing and really friendly. I had the Haggis balls for starters and they were nice, the steak for mains which was very... More

Had dinner with my family there. The service was a little slow but very friendly, however, the food was all absolutely delicious. A great spot in the heart of Edinburgh to avoid the tourist traps on the royal mile.

Starters, Camembert fondue; and haggis balls, were just warm so the fondue in particular was a let-down. Quite a delay before mains arrived. These were sea bream on a garden pea risotto with scallops; and Vietnamese chicken curry with noodles and jasmine rice, which were OK in each case. Place was quiet when we arrived in early evening then quickly... More

My husband and I had lunch here early November. Food and service impeccable. Presentation and attention to detail is outstanding. Incredible value for money. If we didn't live so far away we would eat here every week.

We had calamari and the Camembert to start. The calamari was good and so was the Camembert but the portion was a lot smaller than the last time I had it (now only comes with 3 small croutons for dipping). The mains came quickly and were very tasty. Our waiter was fairly attentive but quite impersonal and we did just... More

Sunday dinner at Maison bleue was welcoming and warm on a particularly cold night. Sitting on a small down stairs table for two next to some very interesting metal necklace art. We started with some rums to warm up, good range & reasonable prices. We shared a beef starter with Asia greens was very well balanced. Beef cheeks for mains... More

ordered the surprise calamari accompanied by an espresso martini, absolutely fantastic. The beef cheeks were served under 10 minutes after finishing the mains, just as good. Will be returning soon thanks again

There is nothing I can complain about in Maison Bleue - the staff's really professional, the food and atmosphere - spot on! It's a bit pricey but it's totallly worth it for the service and food you get there. While waiting for our food, we were offered bread, olive oil with balsamico and some olives - lovely idea! What really... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
