My friend and I visited here on the weekend for a quick bite to eat. The place was busy and we were shown tot he waiting area where we said we would be happy to eat. We ordered drinks and then soon after ordered food. The food seems overpriced (£15 for Mac and Cheese) but I imagine this is because... More

My husband and I ate in the maison bleu last night for my birthday meal. I absolutely loved the who atmosphere of the restaurant as well as being so close to the castle in such an oldie world place. The staff were very attentive and well organised never having to look fr a waiter/waitress always on hand even replacing water... More

Walking to our hotel in Grassmarket from the train we cought a hint of the Med on our nostrils as we passed. It was an easy find on the Internet & reviews suggested our sense of smell had not lied. Booked for 4 at short notice on Saturday and had some excellent food. Between us we can speak for the... More

I fell in love with this place the very first time I saw it. The atmosphere is unique, romantic and Cozy. The cuisine is French with a mediterranean twist. The staff is always nice and attentive. Their key lime pie is to die for.

We found this while wandering around looking for lunch on New Year's Eve afternoon. Our server was helpful and attentive. All of the food we tried was very good, and they also had a nice wine list. The atmosphere is cozy and adorable; highly recommend!

We ate here on 3 January before we went to see a show. We booked it because they had a pre-theatre menu. Unfortunately they didn't have it on when we went as the waitress said they were in the process of changing the menus. She did however say we could have items that had been on it for the price... We arrived early, still trying to adjust to the time difference. They were very warm and gracious. Excellent food. Excellent service. Great bellinis. Dessert was so good.

What a lovely quirky restaurant! Although the menu choices were a little restricted - 3 choices of starter, mains and dessert due to it being pre new year celebrations, the food was excellent and all the staff very friendly. There was a glass of champagne on arrival and a small 'surprise' starter. The wines were a little on the pricey... More

I was walking past a Saturday early evening, with no reservation stopped in because the place looked lovely and although they were very busy they managed to squeeze me into a corner table. I had the 3 course Christmas menu which was delicious. The staff were charming, helpful, kind and attentive. I would definitely eat there again.

It's been a while since the last time I had good food in such a cozy restaurant atmosphere. The staff was friendly and very helpful, the decoration was festive and there was a fireplace and candles which made the restaurant have a homey vibe. We had a 3 course meal and it was a reasonable price. I picked the mushroom... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
