Namaste Kathmandu came highly recommended by both TripAdvisor and our hotel staff. We stopped for dinner after a long day of walking Stockbridge, Dean Village and New Town. We were seated right away without reservations. The menu is expansive and has Indian and Nepalese selections. We ordered the Chicken Cheese appetizer and shared two entrees (chicken and lamb). Dinner was... More

This is our second time going for dinner to this restaurant. The service is ok but the food is really good and the portions are very big. The staff or polite but standoffish with little or no interaction with the customer.

This restaurant tends to serve very high quality dishes. Authentic Nepali food is typically hard to come across in Edinburgh, but you can find it here. In my opinion, the dishes are slightly overpriced, but I still like to come here to treat myself once in a while. If you come regularly, you can build up quite a friendly rapport... More

Had a vegetarian aubergine curry, which was creamy and delicious! The menu has loads of choice, the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the staff are super friendly.

Lunch for 5 Service was a little slow however the food was delicious when it arrived. Melt in the mouth lamb and succulent chicken. Reasonably priced. The restaurant was a little chilly so wrap up.

The wife and I wandered in one night without a booking and were greeted enthusiastically and politely by the staff. Food turned out to be of a high standard and reasonably priced. Service was extremely efficient without being intrusive, this aiding an already pleasurable experience. Décor and overall ambience were very good, it was clean and comfortable and modern. I... More

A subsequent visit to Namaste Kathmandu revealed underlying issues in what I previously described as "blunt but efficient" service. Having pre-booked a special and confirmed the conditions of the offer, I chose from their normal à la carte menu. The waiter appeared disgruntled, but took my order. My seafood main was excellent as expected, but marred slightly by significantly crispy,... More

Namaste on Edinburgh's Forest Road has reopened as Namaste Kathmandu with the same well-respected chef but a new look and menu. A cosy entrance lounge bar leads to a smart, peaceful dining area decorated with fine Nepalese art. For Namaste Kathmandu specialises in North Indian and Nepalese food. Most people come here for the latter, regularly ordering the kathmandu king pawns in papaya, murgh tikka masala, and banepa ko lamb mysore. At the end of the menu is a small but noteable choice of Nepalese dishes such as momo or dumplings (popular in Nepal itself), and chicken dish bhuteko kukhura, A good choice of restaurant for a quick wholesome meal or a leisurely three-course exotic feast. Downstairs there's second smaller and quieter space.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
