Inexperienced staff

Although the food was delicious, the service was poor, staff seemed inexperienced. Family member asked for 2 vodkas and a can of diet coke and received a large glass of diet coke, when corrected, she received a double vodka with diet coke. Server spilled chutney on our table, she apologised but did not wipe it up. Family member asked for peppermint tea and received 3 pots. Several family members ordered after dinner drinks, served asked each individual how they wanted it, we mostly asked for one cube of ice, we received none and one of our group received a Tia Maria in a warm glass, then a second one arrived (we were not charged for the 2nd).

Wonderful, friendly and accommodating restaurant.

Wonderful , friendly restaurant, well worth a visit. The brilliant helpful staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, my food was very spicy , but the lady replaced it with a milder version and although I couldn't finish she put it in a box to take home, all done with the minimum of bother to them , and the gratitude of myself, the menu is wonderful and excellent value. Thank you everyone at Rishis for a splendid night.

Fabulous restaurant

What a great experience Rishis was. We went for lunch so were limited for time. The meals came quickly and the waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. We never ate all of our meal so we were offered take away cartons and bags to take the remainder of our meals home.

Poor service all round

I went here with my partner and it took 20 mins for them to bring our drinks and 45 mins for them to bring our starters after asking where they were. Shortly after the starters the mains arrived. Food was tasty but chips were undercooked and the nan bread was cold. No discount offered in lieu of bad experience. There was however an apology from a waiter and he said that he had to focus on the big table instead of us. This was not good enough really, a customer is still a customer. We would usually have had dessert but decided to just leave. We were recommended that this place was good so we understand it must have been an off night. As we were on holiday we won’t be back as it was a one off.

Nice Restaurant, poor food.

Nice restaurant with good service. The menu is limited (which I think can be a good thing) but the food was of a pretty poor standard. I had the Chicken 65 as a starter, supposedly their signature starter. It was chicken pakora with a fancy presentation. It wasn't even that good a pakora. For the main I had a lamb biryani. The main course was served in a large bowl with a very small bowl of curry sauce and a tiny bowl of raita. The biryani had clearly been on the hotplate for some time as the top layer of rice was crunchy! Shortly after I started on my meal a waitress asked if I was enjoying my meal. I replied that I hadn't found any lamb yet and she smiled and walked away before I could say any more. There was some lamb right at the bottom of the rice which indicated that they was not cooked with the rice but added at a later point. The lamb was ok but there was not enough of it in the dish to make it good value. The curry sauce was average and I did like the raita which went well with the biryani. The beer (Kingfisher or Cobra) was reasonably priced. I waited for someone to come and take another order for beer but this didn't happen. As no one was coming near my table I decided to leave but had to go to the bar to get my bill. A very disappointing meal, overpriced, quite bland and nowhere near value for money. This is a restaurant that I will not return to.

Make sure you get what you pay for!

Food was OK BUT..from the drinks menu I ordered a 568ml bottle of Kopparberg mixed fruit cider (£5.50). We finished the meal and I noticed the cider I ordered was in 500ml bottle. Spoke to a senior member of staff, told him he had ripped me off (and I'm sure other unsuspecting customers). No apology was forthcoming, just a small adjustment to the bill. BE CAREFUL!!

Waste of time

Ordered a takeaway for myself and my mother, was told 35min wait, got there around that time to collect, waited longer, got the order and got home (eventually, rush hour) only to realise the rice was missing. Rather than send someone out with it, I had to go collect it, again in rush hour traffic, by the time I got to the restaurant and got home (30+ mins) our food was cold and reheating it just removed any and all moisture. Would have been as well eating cardboard and cold rice. Won’t be back. Goa in broughty ferry is a much better choice

Very Expensive

Food is good but the prices are way over the top. £7 for 2 very small chickpea samosas, when the ingredients would cost in the region of 20p, is absolutely scandalous. £18 for a curry & rice is the most i have ever paid. Like i say, the food is good but priced not.

Was in Dundee on business so decided to eat here for a change from the hotel. Was seated quickly but there were not many people in, my starter arrived before my drink, also it was the wrong drink. The starter was okay, it was a large portion but I ate it all. My main was a vegetable biriyani and it was a ridiculous sized portion. The rice was in a large bowl with a spoon and would have served 3 people easily. The curry sauce was in a very small dish and was very disproportionate. I spotted something in the rice that looked like chicken and had to get the waiters attention. He came over and advised it was paneer, in my world that is not a vegetable. The rice also had cardamom in which I hate and have never encountered in a vegetable biriyani in all of my life and I have had a few. I just couldn't eat it. I would not come here again.

Takeaway - very disappointed with food and customer service

Ordered a takeaway for collection- advised 40 mins but wasn’t ready until over an hour later. £28 - Both curries were stone cold and naan bread broke up when we removed it from bag. Extremely disappointing. Phoned to complain, no offer of refund (even part) but we could order again and he would give us free curry(?)…..why would we?

We have eaten here these last two Sunday nights because it’s so close to Travelodge Central Dundee. It’s a busy restaurant but the manager and staff are very good at their jobs and we only saw happy customers. We enjoyed a bartenders special house drink Thiruveni no alcohol made with pineapple ,grape juice and ginger.Very nice. Masala dosas piping hot fresh crispy and well filled just as we have enjoyed in South India many times and served with Sambar, coconut chutney etc. I needed a pudding to finish and the mango and yogurt came in a glass dish and looked amazing. The dessert had a proper name which I can’t remember but it tasted exquisite ! So good we have to come back again.

Birthday Dinner

Reserved a table and on arrival had been mix up with times but still got a table.. had advised in booking it was for a birthday but no recognition of this.. once seated struggle to get out to bathroom due to tables close behind us.. ilInitial service good as in drink and ordering.. very limited beer available except the table that arrived after us seemed to have not hassle with beer choices!! drinks arrived ok but wine dumped on table with two glasses unopened, starters arrived very tasty followed by mains which arrived spaced out.. disappointed as we weren’t told that dishes don’t come with rice but we had ordered a couple of extra portions and naan breads so we survived.. after finishing we waited for table to be cleared and finally had to ask for table to be cleared, then had to ask again for deserts that certainly wasn’t worth the wait.. never got asked if we wanted more drinks throughout our time there.. food ok and passable but nothing special … service (the waiter that took our order was lovely) but after that terrible.. seems staff are too busy carrying takeout food to delivery drivers, maybe a take out next door would be better than a restaurant that is limiting there service to the diners! Very disappointed especially after ready trip advisor recommendations !! An expensive dinner that was poor in quality..

Worst service I’ve ever experienced

Waited 1.5 hours for our main meals. Asked for a glass of water which never came. Asked for bill which took over 20 mins. Plates not cleared away even when we were paying the bill. Meals came for 2 people and other 2 had to wait for 10 mins - very poor would have been nice to eat at the same time! Lovely food but would avoid if you want good service. Told the staff I was unhappy with the service didn’t even get an apology. Won’t be back.

Horrendous Service

Order was taken on arrival at 1730, Popadoms came out fairly quickly then had to wait an hour before asking member of staff what was happening with our mains. Was told they were just coming. 20 minutes later asked another member of staff, after watching her leave the table, went straight back to serving other tables without checking what was happing with our order. All this in mind we were never offered drinks after we got water on the table on arrival. Will never return to this restaurant. Avoid at all costs!! Shocking.

Such a great experience eating at Rishi's! The staff are wonderful, incredibly helpful and informed about all the dishes on the menu (not always the case in some restaurants). The choice is wide, and flavours excellent and authentic. We had a wonderful and tasty meal, with the addition of a mango lassi drink at the end which was wonderfully refreshing - something we have never seen or been offered in any other Indian restaurant in the UK. They specialise in ayurvedic principled cooking, so if that is of interest to you as well, this is the definitely the place to go. Lunchtime menu is incredibly well priced, and dinner menu is very reasonable in price. Don't miss out on treating yourself here, when you're in Dundee.
