We arrived in Oban on a Tuesday for a three night stay and we were surprised how busy the local restaurant were, obviously due to the COVID restrictions. We eventually managed to get a booking in the George Street fish restaurant which is a small...restaurant attached to a takeaway fish and chip shop. We were seated upstairs which had about six reasonably spaced tables. Fish and chips were the order for both of us which was very tasty and there was plenty of it. A good wine list as well. I would definitely recommend.More
Obviously popular with the locals which is always a good sign.
Nice freshly prepared food with some interesting dishes on the menu .
Staff were friendly. Only downside was 50p a sachet for sauce is a bit steep.
During my visit to Oban, I had hoped to try one of Scotland’s traditional dishes. Being a vegetarian my options became very limited and I had been recommended the White pudding from a friend which is what I ordered. After leaving the establishment and realising...the lady had given me a black pudding, I immediately returned and explained the issue. She was not willing to help at all and simply said “you said black pudding to me” when clearly this was not the case as I am a vegetarian and asked for white pudding. No replacement was offered and I was forced to purchase a separate white pudding meal. Very disappointed with staff attitude! Would not recommend.More
Visited this establishment over the September holiday weekend. It was busy, after standing in the queue for 30 minutes, I eventually got to the till to place my order. I am 67 years old with grey hair and a beard. I made a joke with...the young man at the till, “I was 21 when I joined the queue” . He laughed, the two men who were doing the frying obviously asked him what I had said (the two of them were not British ). I asked for a fish supper and a tea. Paid my money. What then happened was I was ignored, at least three customers who ordered after me got their order. I asked the young guy at the till where my order was, and one of the other men said “it will be ready shortly” about 10 minutes later they said my fish supper was ready. I went in to collect it. No tea, I asked where is my tea - reply “it’s not ready yet“ I had to wait another 10 minutes for the tea. The fish in the fish supper was mangled beyond belief, the chips had obviously been lying about for a while. Other than standing outside, I saw no evidence of Covid rules being observed. What a disappointing experience, every other food establishment I was in was fine, will never be back in this one.More
What else to have while out for a walk in lovely Oban, fish supper. Noticed this place was busy so thought, must be good.
So glad we did, one fish supper ordered and one scampi supper, so so good.
Defo go here again
I dined here twice during our week's break in Oban.
I had the fish cakes one evening and scallops with chorizo the other (think this was a special).
Bread n butter pudding and I think Creme Brulee the other.
Great place. Very friendly, everything good....Not a big place, definitely bookMore
