We have been going to Light of Bengal for years and always found it to be value for money and the food second to none. Tonight I was a bit disappointed I know prices have gone up somewhat which I totally appreciate but the nan bread which is usually too much seemed to be very thin and hardly any substance also the rice portions have been cut and there was more sauce than chicken in my dish but prices have still risen. I would say this is the first time I have left this restaurant still hungry. ÂŁ5 for a really small bowl of rice I found quite excessive. I am really thinking twice about going back but hope this will be rectified turned out a bit expensive for what you got

Last time I visited I was a little disappointed with the food. Not this time. Tonights visit with three friends was great. The food was back up to high standard, service was excellent and a good time was had by all. The four of us had different starters and mains, eight dishes in all and there were no complaints. Food was well cooked and presented with a very attentive service. Like all catering places, the prices have risen but still we felt that we had value for money. Well don light of bengal looking forward to next visit already. Highly recommended.

Phoned for a takeaway to be delivered early 6.28pm on a Saturday got told would be an hour, hour came and went phoned got told it would be 1 hour 2o minutes on a Saturday because they were busy ....on a Saturday.... wow what a surprise! Waited and waited phoned and just on that our food arrived lukewarm and missing one item. Phoned to complain to be told it was busy but they would try and do better Next time
Next time !!!!!
Such a shame as food was goodish not great but certainly not worth the hassle.

I am completely disappointed with the food that was delivered yesterday evening, 28/12/24. Having eaten in the restaurant countless times and having ordered through your own website previously, to receive the terrible standard of food that was delivered (ordered through Just Eat) disgusts me. The delivery driver had to call and ask me to stand outside due to not checking my address on the delivery. Food was cold, starters were beyond chewy, like they had been reheated. The biggest disappointment was the curry’s, which were incredibly tasteless, watery, with hard, reheated chicken. Curry’s were spilt over the bag. The amount of yellow dye in them also suggested that something wasn’t right. How can a curry taste like Italian? Saving costs by adding no spices. I know what a Bhuna tastes like. There is more spice in a Pot Noodle. To charge £14.95 per curry with that standard is unforgivable. You recently won Scottish Indian of the year. The judges certainly weren’t presented with poor quality food like we were. You are the most expensive Indian restaurant in Aberdeen. We order from you as we expect high standards but you seem to have fallen for the Just Eat trap. Cut corners and costs as it’s takeaway and as customers have very little voice or means to complain I.e. you ignore your feedback on Just Eat, likely as you don’t care. I am just annoyed that I spent £50 on the most awful Indian meal I’ve ever had, particularly from my favourite Indian in Aberdeen. It’s put me off though and I for one will now avoid and share my feedback with others. Awful.

Upon booking we were told we could only have 6 or 8 pm. Fair enough, we went for 8.
The place was fairly busy when we went in, however quickly emptied out. The staff were constantly wondering up to our table and staring over us as we ate. It was weird. There were at least 15 of them just hanging around. We got the distinct impression that they all just wanted to go home. It was only 2130 in a Saturday night. When we did finish our main course, there was no offer of coffees drinks etc. It was clear that we had to go. Couldn’t even use the toilet as the staff were cleaning it out as we were still eating.
It was a strange experience which we won’t be repeating.

Surprises all around at the Light of Bengal. Staff were helpful and attentive (Alom, nice job), service was well timed, including the chef delivering the food to our table - this struck a note with me as I always feel a chef should not let anything out of the kitchen he's not happy with - bravo LoB.
The food was very good even if our group were not too adventurous! Onion bhaji starters were crispy with a fresh small salad nicely plated. Chicken tikka masala had been marinated and made on skewers in the oven, the lamb in the pasanda was tasty and could be separated just with a fork. Keema naan was liked by all.
I would highly recommend giving these chaps a try. Ambience was pleasant, and the food good value, hot and appetizingly presented,

We Visited there on a Friday afternoon/early evening.
As it was not long after opening it was nice and quiet giving plenty of opportunity to soak in the decor and feel the chill relaxing vibe of the place.
The staff were very friendly welcoming and helpful.
My wife is in a wheelchair and they were able accommodate her needs with ease and patience.
The food was absolutely delicious, we had the spicy popadoms to start, and we tried the fried rice and garlic rice, then shared two curries, the butter masala was flavoursome and the makhani masala was nice and smooth, the chicken in the makhani was nice, moist and tender whereas the chicken in the butter was cooked completely different it was grilled and pulled chicken with plenty of taste from the herbs it had been marinated in, and we found that the two curries combined complimented each other.
The next time we are in Aberdeen we will try to come back but definitely a recommendation to anyone visiting the granite city, there is a reason it has been rated as one of the best Indian restaurants in Aberdeen for almost 50 years now and we can see why.

We visit family in Aberdeen every couple of months and our first restaurant visit is always to Light of Bengal. It’s a busy restaurant so it’s probably best to book especially at weekends. We visited on Friday night and as usual the food was first class. The staff were all very friendly especially Azhad who made sure we were enjoying our meal. We also had a very nice bottle of wine with our meal which was reasonably priced. I can’t think of any other restaurant where the chef delivers the food to your table. He obviously takes great pride in his work. When leaving, the owner thanked us all for our custom and wished us a good weekend. These gestures make all the difference. Well done Light of Bengal. We’ll see you next time.

This must be one of the poorest meals I have ever had. The pakora portion comprised of 5 pieces which I felt was small. Had it been explained I would have ordered more, indeed I asked for a large portion but this could not be done.
The 2 main dishes tasted almost identical one tandoori butter chicken and the other lamb masala. The overriding taste was of sugar with almost no spice. The Lamb is now in the bin. 2 Naan breads in cool packs had to be heated in microwave as they were not warm when opened. With a pint of Cobra at ÂŁ56 including a 10% discount I felt this was really poor in terms of quality and cost I will not visit again.

We visited with a group of friends for a get together having enjoyed the food we’ve had in takeaways over the years. We were seated upstairs which had a couple of other tables but was not full given that it was a Saturday. We ordered drinks, poppadoms and mains, rice and naans for the table. The drinks and poppadoms came and went, but an hour and 20 minutes after arriving there was no sign of our food. We eventually attracted the attention of the waiter who was wandering around not really doing much of anything, he said they were very busy downstairs and that the kitchen was working hard and our food would be there shortly. An hour and 45 minutes after we initially arrived, the food was dumped on to the table in front of us. Half of it was cold and the rest was below average at best. By that point we were too hungry to care and ate some of what we’d been given, although quite a lot was left. Nobody came to ask how the food was despite still just wandering around pretending to be busy doing nothing. When the plates were cleared we weren’t offered any more drinks, or any other food. We still weren’t asked how the meal was. When the bill came, most paid on card but one paid in cash. The waiters then decided the change was theirs to keep, despite being given no hint that it was, and seemed shocked to be asked for it when they reappeared without it. We attempted to make our feelings known but they had absolutely zero interest in our experience or providing the service you’d expect for a restaurant that has apparently won awards for their food. We won’t be back and we’ll be telling all our friends not to bother either.

After ordering earlier in the week and placing a smaller order of the same food today, I was shocked that the price had increased by £10. When I asked why a smaller order was significantly more both staff members, one of who claimed to be a manager, were very rude and cheeky to me. I was told it would take too much time for them to figure out why and they gave varying reasons. Also, on arrival, the order was missing items and an hour later I still haven’t received these. I have been a loyal customer for 20 years and I will never give this restaurant my money again or recommend to anyone.

This restaurant used to be awfully good.
Now it’s just awful.
To start, we ordered a Prawn Puri to share. Normally, it consists of a large king prawn cooked in the tandoori, on top of a Puri. Not this time. Defrosted prawns in an average red sauce lying on a chapati. Truly awful.
I ordered chicken dupiaza, listed on the menu as one of their standards.
Not my standards though..
Dupiaza means cooked three ways I think. This time it was chicken and onion stir fry, almost tasteless. The sauce could have been out of a Sharwoods sauce mix.
Will never return, which is a shame as we’ve been going there on and off, for more that 30 years.
It’s now just off!
The one star is for the Pashwari nan, and it was just average.

As a lone female with some special requirements, I don’t always get the level of service and attention I get when eating with a partner or as a group.
However, I was deeply impressed with the kindness and helpfulness of the Light of Bengal staff. They were respectful of all requests, and attentive in a quiet way that let me get on with my meal in this lovely setting.
And the meal was lovely!
Following a very senior moment when I misordered, then couldn’t remember what I’d asked for, the young staff were quick to put the change through, professional (i.e. they didn’t laugh), and were very reassuring.
Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious.
Curry, rice, popadums, nan. And then some little touches that finished the experience with a smile. A warm towel for my fingers and a few slices of orange to refresh (which, sadly, I was not able to have, but I appreciated the thought) and a cute little “after curry mint” sweetie to finish.
The price was very reasonable and the bill less than I expected.
There were some issues with the ladies’ toilets, but these were pointed out at the time and I didn’t think it would be fair to knock a point off, but I hope they were as quick and efficient on that score as they were with everything else. I will, of course, go back to check.

We visited the Light of Bengal for a Birthday Dinner and were certainly not disappointed by the food or the service. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful when ordering our chisen dishes and no one was disappointed. We have visited this place a number of times now and have never been disappointed.

This used to be one of the best restaurants for Indian food. Now it is reduced to nothing more than an example of how low a restaurant can go. Poor quality repetitive food (with a little food colouring added to disguise the repetition) horrendously overpriced and poor staff and service. Here's a photo of a ÂŁ8 mixed pakora for two. There is nothing left to say other than we will never be back..
