We were three mature and well dressed patrons for High Tea at 2:00 in The Great Room. When we arrived there were only a few other tables seated, while more patrons trickled in over the next few hours it was never overly busy. The decor...More

Afternoon tea with cocktails. Very nice. Delicious sandwiches and cakes. The scones and clotted cream were excellent. My only suggestion would be to increase the amount of sandwiches and reduce the cakes. Too many sweet items and not enough savoury. A screaming baby which never...More

I have not had too many better meals than this for many a year. The room is stunning, the service was excellent all evening and the food senstational. Ended up having a three course banquet which was all cooked to perfection. The selection was enough...More

We visited for an anniversary dinner and had an excellent meal. Menu choice was good, service was fantastic and the food was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was also great, intimate, but still spacious.

This is a great place for upscale dining. The room is fabulous in terms of the reuse of the old banking hall and added to that great food and service.

Honestly this was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The Great Room is a sight to behold - it's just stunning, the wait staff are professional and the food is out of this world. I will be back.

On the back of my booking being made for Sunday and not Saturday (their mishap) they finally accommodated last night for my finances birthday. Cocktails in the bar were great. Bar staff okay but not much personality. The host could not have been more helpful...More

As we had such a dreadful experience dining at the Merchant I would recommend dining anywhere but there

Anything goes within reason but it adds to the atmosphere when you are dressed 'smart casual'.
