About
Olif is a Welsh tapas bar with boutique rooms in Betws Y Coed, in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. We serve a Welsh-themed tapas menu, delivering a fusion of Welsh and Spanish small plates which we’re sure everyone will love. Aside from our juicy Gordal olives from Seville, we try to source all of our produce locally. From our customer feedback, we know that our commitment to using locally produced food which is cooked fresh each day (the only thing you’ll find in our freezer is ice cream and ice cubes!) makes a big difference to the quality and taste of our food. And you can wash it all down with a great range of local ales and ciders, over 40 Welsh small-batch gins, a great selection of Welsh liqueurs and spirits, and a great wine list with Spanish favourites.

Visited this lovely little tapas bar on a Wednesday evening out of season. Made to feel very welcome, had sharing starter of Continental meats which came with hummus, breads and flatbreads, olives and balsamic dip - fabulous! Then had tapas of chorizo in red wine, haddock bites (So light!) and the wonderful cheese croquettas. Bottle of Rioja, Ice cream for dessert and 2 fab Welsh coffees to finish resulted in a bill of £80 and two very happy (and full) campers! Great service, great food and would definitely recommend!

We had a great stay here! The room is really comfortable with nice extra touches, such as waffles on the tea tray, a good hair dryer, and a tray to keep muddy shoes in. The staff are very friendly and helpful - they prepared us takeaway breakfasts on the mornings when we had early starts, put birthday flowers in the room (preorganized by my partner), and lent us an ice bucket so we could celebrate with some prosecco. The breakfast was delicious, and the dinner and drinks in the restaurant highly recommended! Perfect location for access to Snowdon, Swallow Falls, and lots of other local activities.

This restaurant was recommended to us by the guest house we were staying in so we tried it on a Friday night after a long day travelling. We literally arrived at opening time as we were so hungry and luckily they could accommodate us as it's a busy spot. Huuuuge gin selection and good choice of other drinks including a very nice red wine from Murcia. We ordered the meat sharing platter for 2 and then four tapas dishes which for two very hungry people was the perfect amount of food and we ate everything. Great concept of Welsh/Spanish fusion tapas, and the food was absolutely delicious. The ladies who served us were so friendly and accommodating, and it's so nice to be able to take your dog to a nice restaurant rather than just pubs. The bill was about £70 for two drinks each and lots of food! A must do if you are staying in the area.

After reading the great reviews my husband & I were looking forward to our visit to Olif. The greeting was lovely, very smiley & friendly service. We were shown to our table, which in my opinion was far to close to the tables next to us so not a place if you want a romantic setting! Service was great, really attentive & our drinks order was taken quickly, fabulous gin selection (3 pages), however a choice of 3 white wines is not substantial, we chose a Spanish white, not my usual choice & I wouldn’t order it again! Hubby was hungry so we ordered 7 tapas plates, padron peppers, chorizo & beef meatballs, cod bites, squid in batter, beef stew, crispy potatoes with garlic mayo & cheese croquettes. The menu for a tapas is great & stays true to its Welsh connections with every dish including locally sourced produce, which is commendable. HOWEVER! In my opinion a tapas should be cooked freshly & served as & when it’s prepared, dish by dish, as we have experienced in other good tapas restaurants but on this occasion we ordered our dishes & in 5 minutes every plate was delivered to our table. There were elements that excelled - the cod bites were fabulous, the rest of the plates were enjoyable but not exceptional & later that night caused discomfort. The cost for the meal & drinks (really good beer selection I forgot to mention) was very reasonable but a little more TLC & this place could be fantastic

Hi Jo We’re very disappointed that you were not happy with your visit. We’re very proud of what we offer here, and a lot of hard work and very long hours go into trying to make Olif into the very special place that the overwhelming majority of our guests love. It’s not always easy to please everyone, but we try our best, so we’re always gutted if our guests leave us without a positive impression. We are more than happy to serve people dishes as they are ready, and with the exception of the stew and meatballs (which are slow-cooked that day), we can assure you that everything is cooked to order. The kitchen have become very proficient at timing different dishes so they are all ready to go together and I'm sorry this didn't suit you when you came to eat with us. We do generally recommend that guests order a few tapa to start (or something more substantial like a sharing board if you're feeling very hungry) and then a further 4 or so tapas to share after a little break. We do make this clear on the menu too. We usually check with guests about their orders if we think it's too much to eat in one go - as our portion sizes tend to be bigger than traditional tapas. We have a small but carefully chosen wine list over the winter months as we are so quiet. We have a more comprehensive offering from the springtime. Each wine has been hand-picked to complement the food of the different regions of Spain that influence our menu. We’re so sorry if the wines on offer did not appeal to you. We are primarily a tapas and gin bar, and as you pointed out, we do have rather a large selection of Welsh gins, spirits and craft ales / ciders! These and our cocktails made with small batch Welsh spirits tend to be our most popular drinks so we do tend to focus more on them. We do hope you’ll give us another go if you’re in the area again  Mari

First time here. Recommended by friends. Staff were exremly friendly, efficient and professional. Felt totally safe with the surroundings-Details taken when we booked, block time allocated and escorted in to totally cleaned tables etc., each table seperated by a clear partition but took nothing away from the cosy atmosphere. The food was excellent with plenty of tapas to choose from cooked in a kitchen you can look in to. We had 2 starters, 4 Tapas, a bottle of cider and a bottle of wine=£58. Excellent value!! Thanks very much to all the staff. Can't wait to come back.

Mari and Aubrey could not have done more to make our stay wonderful. The care that they have taken to to satisfy COVID-19 restrictions is second to none. They had set up a bistro table in our room overlooking the river where we were able to eat our meals. Food was served meticulously on trays and left outside our door (it tasted fantastic; the creamy mushrooms on the tapas menu are a must)! We were also lucky enough to be able to have a drink on their terrace when the weather allowed. The whole hotel was spotless. Despite all the adaptations that they have had to make, Olif was welcoming and a real joy to stay at. We can’t wait to return.

Olif was fantastic! When we arrived you could clearly see lots had been put in place to make the restaurant Covid safe. They had clear signage on the way in to ring the bell and wait to be seated, hand sanitiser everywhere, screens and an online menu system. The restaurant was fully booked so I would book ahead as they are very popular. I booked around 2/3 weeks before. I read a review below about the quality of the bread and food not being great and I couldn't disagree more. The food is amazing and you can tell it is a very good quality as it is all so fresh and tasty. I would be visiting lots if I didn't live 5 hours away. I also loved that all the gin, beer etc is local.

An impromptu family gathering and day before 60th birthday celebration caused us to book. Also I had booked my son and partner for a 2 night break so it made sense that we all eat there. We were very impressed. We had a great table with loads of space, the menu was plentiful and everything we ordered we loved. The portions were very good and presented beautifully. The food was delicious & faultless. It was delivered by friendly and happy people who ok the time to chat. When they discovered it was my husbands birthday (next day) his cheeseboard (he doesn’t do puds) was delivered with candles and happy birthday messages. Water was on the table and all the drinks were old too. We will return.

Well, where do I start?! A lovely restaurant all round. Lovely staff, great menu, nice decor, ‘unusual’ music choice became a talking point. The waitress (?owner) immediately advised on nut allergy choices (only one item on the menu) and accommodated a veggie request and a drink request, which was really nice. Every dish we had was delicious and we all enjoyed the meal. The Eton mess for dessert was a particular hit. Lovely and clean. Even the loos get a thumbs up, although they are upstairs (just a note for accessibility). Highly recommended - don’t miss out on the best meal you will have for quite some time!

Upon arriving we were seen to straight away. Seated in a lovely window area we instantly download the menu and quickly looked at the various delights that olif always sell inc the Welsh tapas too. We order 9 tapas and each one was fresh, very well made, and seasoned to perfection! We didnt drink alcohol but we got alot of juice for our money and the desserts were delightful!! My partner whom has never been to any olif loved the food and he would definitely reccomend this little gem too. Thanks to tj4 staff and kitchen staff too.

Olif is a very popular restaurant in Betws Y Coed, as is indicated by the reviews posted and tables are snapped up very quickly when they are released. So if you would like to eat here think ahead and get in quick. We enjoyed our meal very much and found the staff very helpful and friendly. COVID precautions had been carefully considered and the service is efficient. This is not a 'cheap eats' though - we made this our 'meal of the holiday' One point of note which I wanted to mention is that some of the tapas comes in '3's which means a couple cannot have an equal portion each. The prawns for example, come as a plate of 3 as did the croquettes. It may not be an issue for other customers but we thought an equal portion each would have been better.

Our time at Olif was amazing from start to finish. On our arrival we were greeted by Mari & Aubrey who were SO helpful and made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. The location is perfect, easy to find, parking nearby, and bang in the middle of where you want to be. We stayed in room 2 which was gorgeous. It was spotless, beautifully decorated and had everything we needed and more. The bed was to die for, lovely hot shower and a beautiful view. We enjoyed our surroundings so much we ordered our evening meal to the room - tapas dishes are beautiful! Great portion sizes, fresh and flavoursome. In the morning we received our breakfast via room service and can honestly say it was one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. It was hot, fresh and tasty. As well as this 5* standard, we were offered fruit, fresh orange juice, cereal, yogurt etc. All which were included in our booking. The messaging service which Olif use is genius - especially during these difficult times. Before and during our stay we had plenty of communication and was given any and all information needed. I can’t praise and thank the staff at Olif any more than I have! They went above and beyond, and done all of this maintaining a high standard despite all of the guidelines in place at the moment. A truly wonderful stay, we will be back again, and will recommend to others. THANK YOU!

Thank you so much Sophie!! It’s been so hard trying to make everything work in our current circumstances and we’re so pleased that you enjoyed your trip. We hope you’ll come back to us again when things get back to some kind of normal. Your photos are absolutely lovely - I hope you don’t mind but I’m going to share them on Facebook!! 😊

The Olif is a no-brainer when staying in Betws y coed, we've been 3 years on the trot now and the food is always faultless. The staff are so friendly and the service is really quick. Between two of us we ordered the hummus starter and 7 tapas dishes...having hiked for 7.5 hours we had really built up an appetite! (I would point out that the recommendation is 4-5 between two people and the lady taking our order did kindly ask if we were sure before letting us order so much food) The seafood selection is amazing and the popcorn cockles were absolutely brilliant. The squid and haddock bites were out of this world, meatballs, prawns and chorizo all fab. The real star of the show is the menai mussels in a creamy local cider sauce, absolutely outstanding. My partner actually finished the sauce off with a soup spoon it was so good. All the portions were really generous and we actually polished the lot off! We finished off our meal with a shot of chocolate-coffee liqueur which was so delicious. Really outstanding locally sourced food and drinks (if you're a gin fan you're in for a treat!).

Visited in 2021 and left a 5* review. Visited in 2022 and leaving a 2* review. Why I hear you ask? Well let me tell you. Arrival was fine, we were greeted and felt welcomed, however it went downhill from there. Service was slow. Our drinks were slammed down on the table (no tray used) and after spending £8 on a glass of wine - I would have expected some slightly better drinks service. Moving onto food. We ordered the vegan platter and my advice would be to not. The menu stated an artisan selection of bread but we got 6 small pieces of the same bread. Whilst I understand that costs have risen, from 2021 the quality, service, size and overall enjoyment decreased more than a flat tyre on a motorway! Final point I wanted to raise was the quality of the olives, given the name of the establishment and again previous experience. The olives were of lower quality than an Aldi selection pot - of disappointing size and flavour. Other food we ordered was okay quality but I have to say again, the price compared to experience was not equal and we left feeling saddened and disappointed overall. They say don’t look a gift horse in the mouth and I now understand why.. visit 1 was great but you should really leave on a high!

Olif is a casual dining restaurant, which means; there are no tablecloths, there is canned music and I found the chairs uncomfortable. Food trumps everything however which is why I rated Olif as excellent. Food at this restaurant is uncompromising. First time customers may love it or hate it. The point is they will remember it. I'm not sure how Spanish the food at Olif is but that doesn't matter. Olif food is exciting. I tried the cod, the scallops and the cockles first. All excellent. The red wine I tried was also good. (Although I made a stupid wine choice for my dishes.) The staff at Olif were friendly and helpful. £60 covered six tapas, two large glasses of wine, a coffee, a tea and a pudding. Plenty of food for two.
