I've been to 1861 several times and have never been disappointed. Went this time with a group of friends and took advantage of the restaurant's November offer. As usual, the service was excellent - discreet yet attentive and the food, superb. We have a coeliac in our group as well as me, the awkward vegetarian - and we both got... More

Again didn't book just turned up and had a table. No change in the warm welcome received. 2 really good courses of food which was faultless along with the usual high standard of service, thought the trio of game was excellent and an opportunity to try 3 different meats. Rounded off with coffee back in the lounge, and their house... More

Great country restaurant with a varied menu and excellent friendly service. Christmas menu is great and also the ala carte menu. Good choice of reasonable priced wines. Souffles a speciality for the deserts.

This place is amazing! The quality, service and atmosphere is fantastic!! If you truly appreciate fine dining, then this is the place for you! If you want chips, a pub lunch, or a meal deal - then go elsewhere, as you won't be able to appreciate what you are being served If this place does not win some awards soon,... More

What a treat this restaurant is. Great menu both fixed price and a la carte. Lovely touches throughout the meal between courses with little extras given. Arrived 12.30 left 3 hours later after a great meal. Will go again.

Lovely setting for a fine dining evening, friendly atmosphere and very welcoming - food exquisite and the pre main and pre deserts were a nice touch. Innovative combination of sauces, vegetables and main dishes. Local providers listed. Deserts were a delight. Strongly recommended.

Amazing range of excellent gluten free dishes, fresh home grown vegetables and lovely little extras. The lavendar and beetroot risotto was great and the brocolli soup with stilton mousse divine. The plaice in bouillabase excellent as was the damson syllabub. They couldn't have been nicer but suggested we advise re gluten free iwhen booking next time as they would love... More

I really wanted to love this place! The setting is lovely and the welcome was very warm, however the food was just very average and hugely overpriced. We don't mind paying a lot for an excellent meal, but this was just such a mismatch between the quality of what we ate and what we paid for. We found the food... More
