I don't have much to say apart from Thorner itself is beautiful and the staff were all so attentive however the food if you appreciate good food is absolutely terrible..... And I really mean terrible, there is a reason on a Sunday lunch has to the place is empty....

Lovely visit here with family. Seems to be back on form after a hiatus. My slow cooked lamb, flaked and turned into Shepherds Pie was a delight with lashings of minty gravy. A steak pie was had by another in our group, and it was described as brilliant. Much of the small menu were 'staple dishes' but done with a... More

Visited here for the first time mid-afternoon on a Sunday. My partner and I both opted for the roast beef, coming with a ginormous Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, green beans, broccoli and lashings of proper gravy. It was a thoroughly enjoyable dish. We then opted for a pudding each; a chocolate brownie and an apple and blackberry crumble... More

Visited as last minute suggestion following a visit to Harrogate and was not disappointed - meal was delicious. We had the pulled pork and black pudding bon bons - never had them before and were very tasty. The wild mushroom soup was very earthy and a lovely dark colour. The ham hock terrine was on the specials board and very... More

On the edge of the lovely village of Thorner this Gastro pub is well worth a visit. A last minute decision to eat out with my partner Jane was not disappointing. A new menu has wonderful starters and mains. We started with Crab cakes and lamb Koftas followed by Braised steak and Ale pie, roasted carrots and chunky chips for... More

We have visited here several times, both for Sunday lunch and Friday/Saturday evenings. Staff are unfailingly friendly & there is definitely a local feel to,it. We have always found the food adventurous as well as old favourites. I really don't understand why it isn't busier.

The occasion helped. A super sunny September Sunday and we sat on the terrace. The service was well nigh perfect, always there and never intrusive (I don't recall an 'is everything OK?'). I couldn't rate this 5 star because the food isn't quite there but the dishes are ambitious and well presented, certainly value for money. And it was good... More

Sorry to say but it will be a while before we return here for Sunday lunch. The staff are lovely and very accommodating but the food was very poor. Some of our party had fish which was tasteless and the batter was soft and wet. Others had beef and I've got to say we needed a hacksaw to eat it.... More
