We waited a little while to be served as the café was a very busy and looked short of a couple of staff, however the tostie was excellent when it arrived, and good value.

Had lunch there and could only eat half the mackerel salad. My partner had steak pie with all the trimmings. Staff are all very friendly. Probably suit an older crowd of people, not so much for the young.

I recently visited The Buttery for the first time with my dad and partner. The menu was fairly standard cafe food (e.g. Ploughmans, jacket potatoes etc.) but portions were generous and the food was fresh. Prices were also reasonable. Food aside, the building itself is very interesting and unique. I'd recommend a visit.

Popped in for a late lunch and ordered the lasagna and garlic bread with a side of chips and also took some carrot cake out for later. Food arrived very quickly and service was friendly. Really enjoyed my main meal but carrot cake wasn't the best I've had. They operate table service which wasn't very clear at first but not... More

served scones which had been microwaved which made them chewy and generally awful - why microwave a cheese scone?

We stopped for a late, light lunch and enjoyed the toasted tea cake, fruit scone with jam and cream and a tuna baguette all washed down with pots of tea and a chocolate milkshake. Friendly service, good food, free wifi and a unique setting in the crypt. Good value too.

We had lunch here on a Friday. The service was good, the food was very hot and there was a lot of meat in the steak pie. I was too full to eat a cake, but they looked very nice. The setting, a crypt, will proably mean it is nice and cool on hot days. I would go again.

We visited The Buttery for breakfast as a group of over 40 children and adults. We were a visiting youth theatre group from st Ives in Cornwall on a strict time table. They opened early for us and we are very grateful for all their hard work. The breakfasts were delicious and arrived promptly. The children and adults totally enjoyed... More

Nice spot of lunch in the Crypt, attentive staff (Abbey served us) and well priced food. Somewhere different to spend an afternoon and they also offer free maps of the city.
