Visited at lunchtime today prior to the matinee performance of The Nutcracker at the Hippodrome across the road. We ordered 1 x fish finger sandwich and 1 x steak&cheese sandwich which came with chips and coleslaw. The food arrived hot but was rather average, service was ok but not a smile from the sullen looking waitress. It filled a gap... More

Visited yesterday prior to Nutcracker as advertised pre theatre food, first time at venue, gave order at 11.25am, chased twice and eventually delivered to table at 12.20, place was not full. Food was awful, cold and dry breaded fish, but by this time did not have the time left to complain due to theatre start time of 1pm, pity as... More

My husband took me and the kids to Birmingham on the train, to visit the NT Back to Backs, opposite this place. We only had an hour before our tour was booked at 12:15 - the tours need booking in advance and are always busy - and we were the only other table in the bar that was occupied. We... More

We were pleased to find a reasonable range of small food items still available before a performance, as we had travelled a long distance after a long day. Service was superb, food nicely presented, prices exceptionally reasonable. Tea or coffee is served alongside more serious drinks at the bar, always good news. Larger trays would be useful for food orders,... More

Stopped here for a bite to eat with a friend on a Sunday afternoon and although iot was almost empty service was slow. The menu said there was table service but after waiting for 10 mins with staff milling around I was about to go up to the counter but someone then came over and took our order. It then... More

Looks like just another wine-bar, but something really works here. Three visits in two months and the same buzz every time - can't be an accident. Seems to be a combination of cheerful, friendly staff and straightforward food which is just made that little bit better. So tagliatelle with chicken and spinach came with a pinot-grigio laced cream sauce that... More

Called in here for pre- theatre drinks. Sat on steps outside as all tables full. Long queue for drinks and tables outside had lots of empties. Probably need more staff at show times. Average prices drinks for a city

First drink of the night before moving off to Glee Club. The Green Room had a few customers already seated so it wasnt busy. We ordered 4 drinks which too ages to arrive on our table. There were staff members cleaning tables which looked already clean in stead of helping in othere areas of the bar.

We popped in for a coffee pre ballet at the Hippodrome but have been coming here for years. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good food. Will always be my go to place on that side of the city.
