Group of 4, girls weekend away. Place looked beautiful and menu seemed reasonably priced (premeal). Lovely prompt service. Feeling very hungry opted for starters....my potato skins could have been a main on their own. All portion sizes were huge. Moving onto mains, the classic lasagne, again was a huge portion. Suddenly the prices seemed surpassed reasonable. How anyone could ever... More

Visited this establishment for the first time in several years and was quite disappointed, we used to visit quite regularly when it was owned by two brothers, you always got a great welcome, excellent unpretentious food and real value for money. Sadly they have now taken the trendy minimalist route and the authentic atmosphere has gone, as has the value... More

I absolutely love Marco Polo! The food always tastes great and marries skillfully traditional cooking with modern touches. I love the breads as well! The ambiance is lovely too, it's classy and relaxed and the staff very polite and efficient. And I find the prices very reasonable. I would highly recommend it.

We went here as a group of friends and have to be honest the whole place was just average. Food good but quite pricey and took quite a while but again just average.

Nice place to meet and have dinner out with a group of friends. Good atmosphere and vibrant groups of tables so didn't feel we had to be hushed. The food was very good and the service was prompt. The only objection and it is a personal one is the service charge. Half of the group wanted to ask for it... More

First thing - the staff were very nice and flexible as we had to change our booking a few times. Arrived and got seated straight away. Was quite loud as was a big party in the room with us but not there fault. I ordered the carpaccio which came with lots of Parmasan, crutons and truffle. The main of goats... More

Called here for a quick bite to eat before the cinema, food was served promptly and tasted very good. Waitress very uninterested no eye contact seemed distracted the whole way through. Empty glass on the table needed filling for our whole meal and no check back to make sure we were enjoying everything... Luckily we were! Food great service not... More

This is definitely on my list of top 10 places to eat in Newcastle. I have dined here many times always choosing it at Christmas for the office party.....we have never yet had a bad meal or experience. Around the Christmas season when a lot of restaurants serve mediocre food here the food has always been first class. Not the... More

Booked a table here for 6pm as I was due at City Hall at 8pm and didn't want to be late - I needn't have worried, the service was efficient and friendly and the food was great. Lovely ambience too. Will definitely be back.

Marco Polo is an Italian bistro that is celebrating its 42nd year of trading. We are an independent restaurant and locally owed. We offer a wide range of pizza/pasta and consider this to be our bread and butter. However we really come in to our own on the a la carte side of the menu. All our dishes are prepared on site and deliver extremely good value. The restaurant is always busy and has great atmosphere. We can cater for most requests. We take reservations and also hold a number of tables back for walk-in custom. So if you're passing pop in.
