Looks very ordinary from outside but honestly some of the best indian food i have tasted. I started with tandoori salmon (wow) then for main had the railway curry (beautifully spiced). We were a party of six and not one complaint. Don't be looking for a big plate of curry with a bucket of rice when you're typsy mind. The... More

I ate here on a short trip to Newcastle after reading about it on their website which contained some glowing reviews. The menu offered some unfamiliar dishes as well as some classics and, while the food was generally of a decent standard, it wasn't quite as good as I'd expected it to be. That said, the Tandoori Salmon starter was... More

Visited here for lunch to take away as I didn't have the time to park very long thanks to Newcastle City Council driving visitors away. Opted for the Chef's Surprise selection at £15 which was quite good value although not much different to what you would get at your local take away. Visited again today for the same, only to... Well I have to say I was a bit disappointed, having had good reports of this restaurant. The street style layout of the restaurant is fun. However our waiter was not - grim and taciturn! The food was distinctly mediocre - though had some interesting dishes on the menu - perhaps we chose badly.

Attended @ 9:30 on a Saturday and after waiting 35 to have our drinks/food order taken we opted for the "Chef's Recommendation" as we thought this would provide a range of tastes we wouldn't normally choose ourselves. There was a rather inebriated couple sitting quite close who ended up asking for there food to go for one reason or another... More

This restaurant is very different in terms of both style and menu choice to that of your traditional Indian restaurant. I visited with a group of friends and we opted for the "Chefs Choice" from the menu which turned out well as it provided a wide range of starters, curried dishes, rices and breads. There was plenty for everyone. The... More

We like Indian cuisine and we have been to numerous restaurants up and down the country over the years, some good, some not so good. Our daughter (who is at Uni up in Newcastle) suggested the Dabbawal as the venue for a Saturday night meal during a recent visit we had made to see her and her boyfriend. We chose... More

The atmosphere is lively and buzzing and the restaurant is always busy even on week nights. The staff are always friendly and the service is very good. The best bit about this restaurant is the food. Freshly cooked and great Indian street food. They can cater for gluten and dairy free no problem The best restaurant i have visited for... More

Someone had reccommended Dabbawal to me, I loved the dishes which I ordered and the two starters ai tried were delicious. I got the 2 courses for £12 and the wine was on offer which made it reasonable. I will definitely be returning!
