We arrived on a Tuesday lunchtime in January and found the restaurant quite quiet. The staff were very accommodating to our needs(one of the party in a wheelchair) and very attentive throughout our visit.. The menu choice was reasonably wide and all the food we had was very tasty if a tad expensive. Portion size was fine. I would definitely go again.

Hi Graham, Thank you for your review. We pride ourselves on our excellent customer, we are pleased that you noticed our attention to detail whilst looking after you. Our menus are all specially created by our great chefs, who do a great job at ensuring the menus have something for everyone, including gluten free and vegan options. Our set menu is set to return on the 01st of February offering two courses for £16 and three courses for £19, great value for money. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

We were recommended to pop on by some friends, so Booked a table over the phone, Man on the phone wasn’t overly polite, but at the time didn’t think much of it at the time. We arrived and the waiter/bar man was on his mobile and we didn’t feel very welcome, we had the fish & chips and chicken pie, both were very well cooked, good size portions and the tartar sauce on the fish was amazing. Most disappointing part was sauces, we wanted ketchup and a bucket of sauce sachets where dumped on our table, the waiter seemed put out that we asked for ketchup. So don’t know is sachets are normal, we’re elderly and the sachets were very hard to open, once we got one open it made a bit of a mess.. considering we are paying about £13 for our mains and it’s a very nicely decorated restaurant, we expected to get a nice pot of ketchup not sachets.. we felt like we had stopped in a roadside cafe.. Overall food was very good but the service wasn’t, maybe the waiter was new, but he just wasn’t very courteous or very polite.. we will go back for lunch again, hopefully happier staff next time..

We decided to end our day out in Lavenham with friends having a meal at the Cock Horse. The modernisation inside was very tasteful and clean with screens partitioning some tables from others giving more protection from covid. The staff were all pleasant and professional and the three course meal itself could not be faulted. The hot dishes were served on warmed plates and on the whole were generous portions. We were not rushed with just the right amount of time between each course and coffees and thought the whole meal was generously priced. BUT the only fault I have was the amount of dogs allowed in. I have nothing against them lying quietly under their owner's tables but round us one was constantly pacing about on it's lead, another barking nearby and another carried in and sitting up at the table! It was the only fault of the evening and rather spoilt the ambience for us who had left our pets at home. So I am giving four stars for this review instead of five for that reason.

We went into The Cock Horse Inn in December to book a buffet for after our sons christening. We agreed on a time, date and price and were told to pay the deposit a month before. At the beginning of February we emailed some questions and it took over a week to get a reply. In the reply it was stated we either pay an extra £10 per head or we have our booking 2 hours later. When we pointed out we had already agreed a time and price they said they had taken other bookings that would spend more money. We couldn't justify paying £25 per head for a christening buffet and having it 2 hours later would mean eating 3 hours after the service and having nowhere to go in the meantime. We live 45 minutes from lavenham so going home wasn't an option. We told them we weren't very happy and rather than respond we got an email saying our booking had been cancelled with no further apology or explanation. By the time they had replied to our emails it left us with 4 weeks to find somewhere else suitable. Thankfully The Greyhound in Lavenham agreed to a buffet for the same price and at the same time. We will not be going here again as it seems money is more important than customer service and their decision to change our booking caused alot of unnecessary stress.

Thank you for your review. As you are aware, a deposit was required to secure the table booking, which was never received. As such we continued taking other bookings as per normal procedure. Once we received your email, we responded quickly to try and resolve the situation, our only option due to other bookings was to try and accommodate you at a later time, still honouring the £15 per person price point. As a measure of good will, we even offered to pay for your arrival drinks. Taking all the above into consideration, I feel we did everything in our power to reach a fair conclusion. We wish you the best with your sons Christening and hope that it’s a happy and memorable day for all. Best wishes

I booked a table for myself and family for an early dinner during a day reserved for the Eat Out Scheme. Understandably because of covid there were a lot of tables and chairs set up in the back garden area. This was at first fine as the kids prefer to sit outside. One of the servers let us know that actually there isn’t any table service outside so we would have to order at the bar. A drinks menu wasn’t provided and in the time it took for us to be told table service isn’t included outside, our order could’ve been taken. It then meant having to walk to walk to the bar not protected by any partitions which on a quiet day did of course allow for necessary social distancing. The two adults in our party were hoping to pay separately but this wasn’t possible as all food and drinks had to be ordered and paid for at the bar and if we wanted dessert we would have to get up and order again. We ordered salads, bread and olives as our starters. These were served at the same time as our mains. There was only about 10 minutes between sitting down with our drinks and getting all of the food at once. In the past we have always enjoyed the high quality of the food served but this visit did not reflect the same experience. The bread was stale, the chips were raw on the inside and burnt on the outside. My steak while cooked fine for me in terms of pinkness wasn’t very hot and a bit over done, the fat hadn’t rendered down enough to be able to chew through which made it even harder to cut as there were no steak knives offered. For this, I was happy to only have had to pay half price. When we asked for ketchup it was served in a paper cup barely half full for the 4 people who were hoping to use it. We waited 15 minutes after eating for our plates to be cleared but they weren’t so we opted for dessert from somewhere else. While the staff were attentive, voicing our concerns for our dining experience wouldn’t have mattered after we had already been asked to pay. We will return for food in future, but perhaps not again while they’re offering their menu at discounted prices as this seems to have had an effect on the quality of food they’re happy to send out.

Thank you for your review, We have two outside gardens, (front &rear). Our front garden has relaxed service , using our one way system to order at the bar, which has proved very popular! The garden to the rear, is full table service along with our restaurant. We pride ourselves on offering great service using the finest local produce, I’m sorry that you feel on this occasion we missed the mark. We take on-board all feedback, good or bad and strive to provide our customers with the best experience, each and every time they walk through our doors. He hope to see you again in the near future, if you would like to discuss anything in more detail, please contact us on info@thecockhorseinn.co.uk

This pub seems to be primarily aimed at youngsters, with unnecessarily loud music (when the bar was empty), but the polite staff did the job. The menu, with that irritating no-pence listing ( £7.50 = "7.5" ) was slightly odd in that there were no simple items available for a lunch snack. The sandwich choice was from four elaborately-described options (eg. "hummus with Mediterranean vegetables..." and whilst we would have preferred an egg-mayo, it was quite nice, albeit pretty expensive. Our overall impression was just OK, and would we go back? Unlikely...

We stopped at The Cock Horse for lunch. The sun came out after a morning of rain so we opted to sit outside although we wouldn’t have had an issue sitting inside as it was very well organised and Covid secure with hand sanitiser, markings on the floor to ensure social distancing and a one way system. My husband ordered the burger - he said that it could have had a tad more seasoning and more cheese but was otherwise tasty. I had the haddock and chips; the fish was perfectly cooked with a crispy batter and the chips were lovely too. Despite the delicious fish and chips the stars of the show for me were the mushy peas and tartare sauce.

Staff were pleasant and service prompt. However, the food was disappointing. Hot smoked salmon salad with croutons turned out to be entirely cold. Stuffed aubergine on the menu was replaced by vegetable curry containing aubergine and nan bread, which sounded good. Unfortunately, the curry appeared to be left over aubergines and cauliflower with added curry powder, thickened with cornflower. The nan bread was oily and burned black in places - possibly fried to refresh and left under a grill that was too hot. Serving food of this kind does no one any favours.

First time eating out and we were pleasantly surprised. We had a meal in the restaurant garden and it is very well laid out which made us feel safe and comfortable. The staff were friendly and welcoming, I was reassured when they kept a safe distance whilst taking our drink and food orders and again when serving the drinks and meals. The food was delicious and well cooked, my husband said his steak was excellent and cooked correctly which is something he always has an issue with... The place was very busy but due to the layout it did not feel oppressive and our order was taken then drinks and all courses were served in good time which make life so much easier when you have hungry children! We enjoyed it so much and felt comfortable enough to book a table for next week to take my parents who have been shielding for my fathers 82nd Birthday celebration.

Visited this beautiful pub yesterday with my son and partner. The service from staff was so friendly and welcoming with a clear one way system throughout the building. My son had the child’s sausages which he enjoyed, and we both had the beef burger which was delicious. Followed by brownie and cheesecake which was equally as tasty! We are so glad we found this pub and will definitely be returning.

We were visiting the area and booked an evening meal at The Cock Horse Inn for Tues 24th August. The tables were very comfortably spaced out and partitioned (in view of Covid) and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. My husband suffers from a Garlic and Onion Allergy and I suffer from Gluten Intolerance - which makes it difficult to find good restaurants! The staff were extremely helpful with our choices from the menu and 'fine-tuned' this with the chef. Our resulting meals were excellent and reasonably priced too. We will certainly eat here again in ta few month's time when we visit this area again

My first visit was with work colleagues. We were a large party of freinds and not one of us could fault the food, service or atmosphere. So today I went back with my husband to celebrate my birthday and once again I was impressed with the whole experience. Thank you all

Had lunch today, with eat out to help out. First impression was a bit dubious, as the menu certainly wasn't as varied as implied online. We also chose a garden table in the shade, covered in leaves, and missing cushions on seats. However, the delightful waiting staff promptly dealt with those issues, and were generally friendly and efficient. We were also served all courses promptly. The food was very good. Shared a calamari starter (nice dipping sauce), and I had the steak... I'm sampling this at a variety of places, and today's was nicely cooked and flavoursome, a billion miles better than the Mill in Sudbury. My partner's falafel burger was 'a cut above the usual veggie burger'. Dessert, a shared sticky toffee pudding, was fabulous, especially the foffee sauce. We will definitely come here again.

Remembering that I’d had a good meal here more than five years ago, I made a return visit with some family members and a family friend. The food was even better than I remembered and the menu had enough choices to satisfy us all, including the two children who were well catered for. The menu is pretty standard for a pub but, even so, the food was freshly prepared, tasty and decent value. Service was superb and so friendly, although slightly muddled as the waitress brought the Camembert shared starter with the mains but considering it was a busy Friday lunchtime, and they’d found us a table despite us not having a reservation, we’d no complaints whatsoever. In any case, she was such a lovely, courteous young person who couldn't do enough to help us and it was hardly enough to knock Earth off its axis!

If you want a top class tasty dinner. Look no further. The Cock Horse truly delivered a masterpiece tonight.. one steak dinner with peppercorn sauce, potato wedges, tomato, and rocket topped with grated parmesan. Mum had fish, wedges and peas. Huge portions. Attentive but not intrusive service, great atmosphere and extremely well presented. We had heard that the pub owned has spent a lot renovating the pub... this is obvious from the interior decor and looks very smart and welcoming. You will be delighted.
