Have been to Mason Bleue and other similar restaurants in and around BSE, but this was by far the best overall experience in the local area. The food was exceptional, the choice of wine was excellent and we'll thought out including the cost for the wine which was very reasonable for the quality offered.

We went to Pea Porridge to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. We have been before, so this was our second visit. Great welcome, great food and great atmosphere! We've visited many other restaurants who serve the same standard of food, however here you feel as if you fit in! We each had 3 courses. He had: crab for starter, steak... More

Visited with my partner, she having been before. Tucked away, a welcome from the attentive staff into a cosy buzzy atmosphere. Treats from the chef then the starter and mains and sadly too full for dessert. Could have enjoyed everything on the menu and having found it will want to return. Lovely staff, great service a real find. Go there.... More

Knowledgeable staff and a very warm welcome await you if you go here for a meal. I particularly recommend the squid-ink risotto - and the Ickworth House Walled Garden white wine to go with it!

Living 45 minutes away we make an effort to eat here lunchtimes mainly on a Saturday every few months. It has never failed to impress... Asking for sweetbreads specifically for one meal when not on the menu were duly promised and served. Tender octopus dish. Great lamb. Flavours really good. Nicely presented. Nothing pretentious. Easy fine dining. Charming service, informal... More

We came here for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Tucked away in a side street and the one way system doesn't make it easy to find but once there we were met with a warm welcome. The food was excellent and well presented. This is haute cuisine with imagination and flair. Service of the same standard. Unusually varied wine... More

We have eaten at this lovely restaurant many times and having visited this weekend it remains our favourite. The husband and wife team who run this place are amazing, his cooking exceeds expectations, the snails and cote de bouf were outstanding as was the veal. The real show support however was the chocolate mousse dessert with the cherry and sauvignon... More

I have been to Pea Porridge on several occasions over the past few years, and it has certainly never disappointed. It tends to be the 'go to' venue for a special occasion and I've had some truly wonderful meals here. The menu is always varied and exciting, and we've always enjoyed the delicious bread and the small sample of 'pea... More

I had been told great things about this place by various friends and relatives but was genuinely underwhelmed by its offerings last night. Apart from the overly hot and somewhat claustrophobic venue, the menu looked both unusual - sweetbreads and chicken hearts are not often to be found - and interesting. However, expectations were sorely disappointed and the ubiquitous presence... More

We were in Bury St Edmunds on a Friday night, and not having a reservation decided to change it and just pop in. They squeezed us in early-and I'm so glad we risked it. This has to be in the top 5 meals I have ever eaten! The octopus starter I had was mind-blowingly good-sweet and smoky and rich. Great... More
