I went there several times for lunches and dinners and was always very pleased with my meals. I love that they are allowing dogs in, which makes it extra fun to visit, especially in the evenings when pet owners pop in for a pint after their walks !

Went here with friends and ended up staying long into the night. Warm welcome from a very nice barman and lady. Later we ordered our food and were not disappointed we all enjoyed our food which ranged from fish and chips, burgers, mozzarella balls and salads. Good selection of wine and beer too. You can sit outside or inside and... More

A good selection of beer and food menu. Nicely landscaped garden with seating with heating, lighting, shade and rain cover. Live music from jazz on a Sunday to other genre during the week from time to time. Board games available and a dog friendly pub.

Had a table booked for Saturday for birthday celebration with the family and we took the dogs along. We all had a good meal and good service from the friendly staff. They also had a bowl of dog biscuit on the table when we come in which was a a nice touch.

I reviewed this pub back in March and am pleased to say that it's back again. It's had problems in the past (heating in winter months, the pubco not spending on necessary work, etc), but it seems to have turned a corner and is a pleasure to visit again. The menu selection has changed and shrunken a bit, but the... More

Visited last Sunday with my husband and two dogs and had a lovely Sunday lunch. Although situated on a main road, the garden was very secluded and relaxing. The food was lovely, and the only reason for 4 out of 5 was the customer service. We had booked a table but were told to sit wherever was available. Only half... More

Excellent pub! Aspall is like liquid nectar and the food is spot on. Garden is epic, with a well heated covered area if needed!

looking forward a easy place to spend a easy noon? Abbot is very good for this! the burgers are very nice when the place is not so crowded and they make convenient offers during all the week. Beers are a bit expensive but it's ok.

During the weekends everywhere is crowded in the town centre and its almost impossible to seat in a bar and just talk to your mates. So, if you are looking for a less crowded and comfortable place to go in Reading that is not that far from the town centre, this Restaurant and Bar can be the solution. I just... More

I am not normally a burger fan, but when visiting The Abbot Cook last week the Farmyard Burger did look appealing with its Pork confit and Davistow cheese both of which were very tasty all topped of with a fried egg. In summary it was a pretty special burger. Beer good, service friendly - atmosphere a little lacking but all... More

Description
A Reading pub with a relaxing vibe. Regulars say The Abbot Cook has 'the best beer garden in Reading', but that's not entirely true; it has two. With a line-up of entertainment as eclectic as its top-drawer drinks list, there's also plenty going on inside this Cemetery Junction pub. Don't get us wrong, though: we're more 'gently buzzing' than rowdy and raucous. Our comfy surroundings are perfectly conducive for unwinding over a post-work pint, or kicking back over a hand-carved Sunday roast and a generous serving of chilled out tunes.
