A group of me and my friends went to the fishes for some food this afternoon. We rang about 15 minutes in advance and they said they could squeeze us in. There was 6 of us and everywhere in the area was heaving with people due to the weather being so nice. We really appreciated being squeezed in for a... More

We visit FIshes once a month or slightly more or less, but with such a disappointing experience I doubt we will be back! Relaxed, 'cool'! Service which would be better aimed at actually offering service was not the best, £13.00 for a steak bap which we sent back for the chef to put on the sole of his shoes! Soup... More

A busy pub, with friendly service and a lot to offer not just fish eaters but vegetarians as well. The sharing platters are good. The cocktails are a bit expensive, but well made.

The Fishes bills itself as a restaurant, but it is really a local pub that expanded massively and which tries to be a decent gastro-pub location, and fails. There is quite extensive seating both inside and outside on the veranda, and also in the garden below the pub. That's the problem. The catering facilities haven't expanded to adequately serve this... We have been here four times in the last six months. It is one of the best two gourmet pubs in Oxford. The food is really tasty with a good presentation. It is a little pricy but worth the ambiance. My only criticism is the service. It is slower than its competitor, the Perch. The staff of the Fishes has... More

Great pub even better in the summer, good food and drinks, management can be distant and stressy, staff can be dismissive though...location, food and drink are ace, staff and team need to raise their game

I first went to the Fishes in the '80s with my girlfriend. It was wonderful to return with her as my wife for an excellent lunch in a beautiful rural setting just a few miles outside Oxford. Large windows afford an excellent view, there is a variety of ciders as well as beers and good wines and the food is... More

We had the baked Camembert, which was nice but the bread and veggies finished way before the Camembert, so you can't finish eating the starter. A bit more bread! Main meal vegetables and fries were nice but the ramp steak was lukewarm and extremely hard. The fish was fine but nothing too special. Food is ok for a normal lunch/... More

We went back to the Fishes after a slightly disappointing meal last time as it's really convenient for us and it's a decent setting and everyone deserves another chance. Overall I have to say it was OK but a little disappointing. For example the menu had interesting things on it like a parsnip and cheddar cake with leeks in mustard... More

Description
The Fishes is a hidden gem. Quite a big gem, too. An imposing Victorian building set in acres of wooded grounds leading down to the banks of Seacourt Stream. The deck that wraps around the conservatory offers a rare opportunity in land-locked Oxford to dine outside with an idyllic view. In recognition of this, the Fishes was named Al Fresco Dining Pub of the Year in 2006, as well winner of The Public Vote in Oxfordshire Restaurant awards 2012 making it one of the best restaurants in Oxford.
