I'd heard raving reviews about this place. It was OK. My lunch was a little soggy. Maybe I caught them on an off day.More

Hello, Thank you very much for your feedback. It pains me to hear that such average food is being served up. I have identified the problems and will be acting on these over the coming weeks. It has always been my intention to serve the...More

Another quest for the perfect Sunday lunch bought us here, a place we'd eaten at many times before, but just for snacks and tea/coffee. They only sell expensive bottled beers and even more expensive soft drinks so a tipple with lunch is pretty restricted. Three...More

We went 2 days in a row. The first day breakfast was excellent. Big and tasty. So we went back for more on day 2. However the portion was much smaller - so much so I thought they'd brought the wrong order. After a quiet...More

I honestly didn't expect this kind of menu for a place that, by its own admission, is a "cafe", but the food was absolutely delicious, in really unusual combinations but that really worked. I can't sing its praises enough. Their vegetarian dishes are amazing and...More

This restaurant deserves a three rating for the quality of the food but there is something a little too ambitious about the place. It would really be better as a cafe, with its mismatched wooden chairs and plastic banquettes, seven tables in a very small...More

Hello, Thanks for your review. I'm a little confused as our tables and chairs all match and we have a lot more than 2 tables in the back room. I don't share your opinion that we are over-ambitious, we just serve quality price at reasonable...More

Nice intermit bistro lovely service with a relaxed atmosphere. Food cooked fresh and I love being able to see the Chef create his colliery delights with ease and purpose. Tasted just delightful. Happy all round and will be returning next time I'm in York.

Sunday three course was a very good deal (a bit higher Friday and Saturday nights for the same menu). Food was creative (without being silly), fresh and delicious, including some good veggie options. A nice selection of wines by the glass, too.

Description
Our small-but-beautiful bistro is found on the busy and lively Gillygate in York. A street full of independent shops and businesses, it leads right into the heart of York through one of its ancient City gates.

A traditional and cosy bistro front room that evokes the brasseries of Paris connects to a more spacious and lighter garden room at the rear. This in turn leads to our charming and secluded garden area adjoining the City Walls and basking in the glory of the fabulous York Minster. Whether you come for breakfast, for lunch, or an evening meal, the bistro provides a delightful setting for you to enjoy your meal.

Ideal for romantic couples, families or large groups, Café No.8’s bistro offers simple, modern, quality food at excellent value. Make a reservation and see why we consistently appear in ‘top places to eat’ lists both locally and nationally.
