We only popped in here for a drink. Unfortunately apart from some locals we were the only customers and although the bar man was very nice you just got that feeling that you were continually being stared at by a local. This made you feel a little uneasy and we only stayed for the one drink.

Have a great time, spend £20 and had two meals plus beer and wine. Lovely decorated and ambiance. Centrally located just some steps from York Minster

Whilst visiting York with two Spanish friends we went in search of a pub that served a traditional British Sunday lunch which they had never experienced. We were attracted to the Royal Oak due its historic past as it dates back to the 17th century . The staff were very warm and welcoming and the service they provided was excellent... More

Just dropped in for a couple of beers as the weather was not good and it was a short walk from the Hotel.Very friendly welcome from staff in a great little room with an open fire. Visited twice more over the weekend.

Whenever we are in York we visit this amazing pub. This time we visited every day! Always a warm welcome, great ale and, much to the wife's pleasure, a fantastic Gin bar now! Gareth is a great host and a gin connoisseur! The food is always great and if you can make the Sunday quiz your in for a treat!

My wife and I visited the Royal Oak at Dinner Time (Mid-day to me) on the 6th February 2017. We ordered the Steak Strip Sandwich which was part of the Drink & Meal Deal they were running. The cost was just over £7.00 each. At that price we were expecting a snack type small bun and chips. What we received... More

Had a great burger meal at a smashing price here. When I had finished my meal, they started live music in the pub room. Some experienced local troubadours really entertained us here at a thursday night!

4 of us had a late lunch here. Overall, everyone was pleasantly pleased. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The only complaint was with the belly pork. The gravy (or Jus) was very greasy. Yes, I know belly pork is a fatty meat but it left a greasy film in the mouth and lips for several hours afterwards. The crackling... More

Went for the Sunday roast. Was told earlier not to worry as they would not run out till 8.....we were there at 5. Substituted desired meal for fish and chips. Dry piece of fish disappointment. On a happy note, the wait staff was very nice.
