We were looking for a good value Sunday lunch in a nice pub to get a taste of the infamous Yorkshire puddings. The restaurant area (lounge) feels homely, quite small which makes it intimate. It can feel quite dark but we actually sat under the skylight/ conservatory area bit which felt a lot brighter. The lunch was very filling and... More

We were visiting York for a weekend break and as we did not know of any special places to eat we found the Royal Oak on passing earlier and it caught our eye. We had not booked and we were easily given a table in the restaurant. The decor was dark but pleasent and the layout, compact but not crowded.... More

Very disappointing visit as had been before and it had been good food. Was served the food almost immediately after ordering it, so the food cannot have been cooked from scratch it was clearly microwaved. The roast potatoes and vegetables were rock solid! They charge a lot of money for microwaved food!

The Royal Oak is a lovely old building but I was a bit disappointed in the food. Both our starters were served with a few very limp and elderly leaves of a mixed lettuce pack - they would have been far better just omitted. I then chose a tagine, and although the beef was tender, the vegetables were mushy and... More

Went to this pub as there were special offers for those visiting the Richard the Third experiance. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was good and plentiful, but slightly on the dear side.

A traditional old English pub with all the trappings where you can drink or eat well or do both very happily.

Visited this pub and found the landlord and landlady very very pleasant and friendly. With a large range of draft beers available. There was also a good range of bar snacks and meals available to. Highly recommended if your nearby and looking for a nice friendly drink or meal.

We had not booked a table for our evening meal and were enticed into the Royal Oak by the varied meal and good offers. Service and food was good - the place was busy but staff worked hard to ensure we were seated as soon as possible and had everything we needed
