We just popped in and found good beer and good quality home made food in a very friendly pub. The Shepherd's pie was particularly noteworthy, as was the lemon cheescake. We came back a few days later for the live music (that starts after the food service finishes) and more great beer.

Popped in for a pint and a Sunday roast - great value, well cooked and excellent service - decent range of beers, cosy lounges - a proper out with proper service. Recommend

The staff were very helpful and fitted seven of us around two tables together. We ate from the lunch menu and had sandwiches with chips and a salad garnish. It was no trouble for the staff to make the adjustments to whatever sandwiches that were required. There was a variety of real ales on sale which were well received.

We visit York about three time a year and always visit this pub on Quiz nights. It is a lovely, friendly pub. The service is great, and although we haven't eaten in this pub, the food looks really nice. The staff are very welcoming. It is definitely worth a visit.

We called in here on a Rainy evening. A quick beverage prior to dinner. The Manager was top class...chatty and informative. The beer was excellent. A good range to imbibe.

With aching legs after a busy day in York we needed a sit down and some food to recharge ourselves. Glad we found this place! Cosy, quirky pub. Excellent friendly service and really yummy food. Certainly worth popping in if you're passing. Landlord even made my husband his signature G&T, which apparently was delicious.

Stopped in after a full day of touring York with my mom who is visiting from Canada. We were hungry and thirsty and both needs were met! The staff were quick to greet us, the food came quickly but was cooked to perfection, and the beer was cold. What more could you ask for? We had a lovely visit to... More

We enjoyed our evening with pleasant and helpful staff and a great atmosphere. Perhaps a little crowded room to eat but all part of the experience.

Went here following advice and reservation through TA - I never get disappointed with this option! Friendly service, good food and nice atmosphere! My friends even mentioned that after a few not so well succeeded incursions in York's restaurants (we were visiting for the first time), this one was by far the best one! We all had a (pork) Sunday... More

Re-visited this pub on our second Break to York this year. Not disappointed! The fire was burning, the ale was fabulous, the food was wholesome, and the staff were friendly. Personally I can't fault this place, I am surprised at some other reviews where visitors are not so happy. If you like a cosy, warm ambience and good ale, definitely... More
