Terrible experience and bad customer service, booked a table on OpenTable for this weekend (17th and 18th April 21), weeks in advance knowing York was going to be extremely busy what with everything reopening. I was then emailed 3 days before the table booking to...say it was cancelled and that they’re not reopening until 17th May. Extremely disappointing as not only was it my birthday but there’s now nowhere available to book anymore. Massive letdown and I understand it was a mistake but it’s a bad one. I also get everyone’s on furlough and loving life but someone in the business should have seen all these bookings coming in and got on it earlier, terrible.More

Positive: building was beautiful from the outside, good service. Negatives: 1. Starter- ordered food and the starters came out within two minutes- super off putting- we ordered calamari which was cold and extremely basic, as well as fungi aglio- a few chopped up mushrooms (about...4) with a very watery sauce. 2. Mains- We ordered a veg calzone and a meat calzone- dough was undercooked and the filling was tasteless- so bland. Luckily we ordered from the Christmas set menu so the starter and main together only cost around £14 each. Which for the quality of the food we received was still too much. Otherwise, from the normal menu these individual dishes costed way way above what I would have been comfortable paying! Jesusssss! To conclude, menu sounds v fancy with OK prices, but the reality is that the food is very very basic and bland (one of the worst Italian restaurants I’ve been too). Food was bad.The staff were polite. Building nice.More

We chose to eat off the set menu ( 2 or 3 courses for £16 or £20) as there was plenty we could have eaten. All 3 starters were delicious, as were the main courses. I really enjoyed the seabass. I made room for a...sumptuous banoffee dessert which was rich and satisfying. This was definitely a good choice for our evening meal.More

This is my 2nd visit. The lunchtime menu is a good size and it was hard to choose. Very reasonably priced considering your surroundings. We sat in the sun room with a gorgeous view of the garden. The staff were super friendly. I had the...soup of the day which came with a slice of sourdough bread. It was lovely. For my main I had lasagne and garlic bread. I was expecting cheap and cheerful and it turned out to be the tastiest lasagne I have ever had. The portion sizes are large. My partner had the garlic mushrooms and pepperoni pizza and loved them. My son had the same from the children's menu. We left with full tums! Lovely place to visit when in York. Plenty seating available. Try it 🥰More

The food was good and the restaurant itself is really lovely. We ate in one of the front rooms and it’s surprisingly big and open at the back of the building which looked a much nicer and brighter area than the one we were in....The set menu is at a really good price and was made even better by them being part of York restaurant week. What let it down was the service. The staff were all clearly busy but there didn’t seem to be a great deal of organisation. We didn’t receive any water despite asking. One table next to us received main courses whilst the starter crockery was still on the table. Another received their mains in three stages ( 2 together, then another one and the final one almost 10 minutes after the first ones). The portions were good and better service would have improved the meal experience. What really saved the night was the puddings! The tiramisu was good, really good but I had the banoffee pie and that was out of this world. A really different take on a common pudding and this alone means I would call in for a tea/coffee break if I could get that.More

Whilst they don't have a dedicated gluten free menu, there are some menu items that are gluten free.
