If you are in pain from punitive cancer treatment as Eric, the co-owner of Mairs is, then I think you are entitled to be a little testy at times. It's no secret that Eric and Lynda are going through a tough time with running the Deli and battling Eric's cancer. Not only are the Mairs' regulars wholly supportive, but many... More

This place never lets you down. Great sandwiches and great service. Yes you may have to stand in the queue for 20 minutes but its worth the wait. (Scotch eggs are worth a try too!).

Simply the best sandwich shop there is. All sandwiches made there in front of you from a HUGE selection of meats and joints, and all massive in size. Friendly, wonderful ownets as well and nice to sit in or take away.

Unbelievable find in an out of the way part of York, but well worth the trouble getting here. Amazing breakfast / brunch / lunch choices, wonderful range of breads and a fantastic array of quality deli items to take away with you as well. And very welcoming to our two dogs; even bringing them their own bowl of chicken pieces... More

I popped in for some pastries to take out. Stood in a queue, which grew ever longer and didn't move ( apart from the guy in front walking out) for over for at least 15 minutes. When I was finally served I mentioned quite politely, that perhaps more staff would be a good idea & was taken aback to be told... Lovely filling sandwiches and massive jackets. They also do half sandwiches for the kids. You can choose your bread and the variety of sandwiches on offer is vast. They will also accommodate fussy eaters.

My office orders lunch here daily. I also pop by most Saturdays. Can't go wrong, the selection of sandwiches is infinite, Eric and Lynda are both wonderful, my dog not only is welcome in the shop but will always also get some treat. Certainly not the cheapest place, but a quid won't make any richer or poorer.

Regular customer here. Sandwiches always brilliant, fresh and very satisfying. Service superb owners are always very friendly and serve with a smile. Huge variety of options. Salads, breakfast rolls. Hot sandwiches and cold sandwiches. Huge variety of cheeses, meats. Chutneys are all lovely as well. Never mind waiting at the crazy lunch period just gives me more time to choose!... More
