Like it a little Bijou? A tad cosy? Well, this cafe is positively tiny... ... just four or five small tables at the back of the deli. This is like being invited into someone's home, for a cuppa, snack or lunch. It's probably going to be pot luck if you can find a space, especially during the busier tourist months,... More

On a grizzly Saturday everywhere in town is always full sadly so we ventured down Fossgate to try our luck. We realised this place had a cafe so ventured in. There are only a few tables but we were in luck so sat down to peruse the menu and what a lovely menu it is. Lots of lovely sounding sandwich... More

We visited the Hairy Fig in February having coffee and tea during the morning and liked it so much that we went back for lunch. It's a very small place so you are lucky if you get a table but do try. Friendly staff, fabulous food ands variety of different oils and delicatessen foods to buy in the shop. Highly... More

Hard to find the place, its at the back of the deli shop. Only 4 tables so its very small. Had a salmon salad and it was lovely. My partner had the duck salad and he said that was very nice too. Different salads and soups on the menu board. The shop has lots of different vinegar's and other yummy... More

Found this little place by chance whilst visiting the Merchant Adventurers Hall next door. The hosts were friendly, and informative about their menu which is slightly out of the ordinary, but all the better for that. The food was fresh, tasty and delicious with plenty of menu choice to suit most dietary requirements. Oh.......and not too expensive. Would definitely recommend this little cafe.

Unusual name but probably makes it memorable and sets it apart from competitors in the city? There are many delis and cafes in york but this is one of the best. Tempting produce in window- looks fresh and homemade and delicious. You are not let down when you come to taste the produce- delicious ! Delhi shop to front of... More

I've never been able to eat in their tiny restaurant but I have plenty of experience of their wonderful delicatessen next door. All the products, of which there is an amazing range with many of them in season, are top quality. Treat yourself to one of their many balsamic vinegars, their delicious ham and cheeses, olives, anchovies etc and you... More

My partner and I stumbled across this little place for lunch yesterday, my partner had black pudding, apple and goats cheese toastie, I had smoked salmon and caviar. Both were absolutely stunning, such a charming little place and very reasonable. The shop at the front is lovely, we came away with a selection of teas and some of their delicious... More

Tucked away at the back of the little shop is the hairy fig cafe, there is literally about 4-5 tables so don't be surprised if you have to wait. The lady who works there is lovely, very friendly, she may even make some of the food too. I had the cured meat, cheese and bread platter, it was huge, I... More

Had to refill our bottle of fig balsamic vinegar which friends bought us. So many to choose from. Wonderful tempting things in intimate surroundings. Went into the little cafe to the rear of shop and sat at a quirky old table. Chose the "colour green" soup which was pea, spinach and herbs which was creamy and delicious with homemade cheese...
