Had an amazing day in the Madness with my wife and close friends. The beers are utterly fantastic, you can pop downstairs and choose from the 100s on offer and bring back up into the bar. Food was great, brilliant friendly busy atmosphere and what a cool looking place

Heard a lot of good things about this place so went to see. When we visited it was extremely full and it was very very small. Every table was taken and there isn't a bar area as such to appreciate the atmosphere, it also looked like most people where eating. We didn't expect what we found, we thought it was... More

A real world of ales spirits wines and even scrumptious pork pies. This is another one of those places you must visit when in York. A bag full of bottles also clinking away as my journey continued.

Popped into this cosy bar yesterday - full of quirky animal heads, candles etc. Loved the place. Tried the Titanic porter and wasn't disappointed. Also tried the home made cheese and beer soup served with fresh bread and butter - just the thing after a freezing cold walk around old York. Never seen so much alcohol for sale in such... More

I couldn't get over this place, once we managed to explore it. On one evening we entered the bar upstairs and it was way too full to be able to order food and sit at a table, so we decided to leave it until next time. Arrived 3pm-ish the next day, we managed to find room easily in the upstairs... More

The place is gorgeous. The entrance gets you into a liquor shop at the ground floor, with a huuuge selection of spirits and beers, then you get at the first floor where the pub is. The ambience is just great, very typical, a variety of animal trophies hanging from the walls, high ceiling, everything really Yorkshire. Not so many seats.... More

A great pub upstairs in a tudor building with open beams and good beer. Limited food but hey - it's a pub. You'll probably have to queue on a busy night due to fire regs.

Great place. Fabulous atmosphere and really welcoming staff. We just had a cheeseboard snack rather than a meal which was lovely. Definitely going back.

We struggled to find the House of the Trembling Madness because we had forgotten that it has a shop front! Shop has every sort of alchohol you can think of, and more. Upstairs is the bar and it is fascinating. It was late Sunday afternoon when we visited and it was busy - am guessing it is busy all the... More

Hidden behind and upstairs of a quirky little shop selling every type of alcohol imaginable lies this brilliant bar. It feels like you are in medieval york when you enter from the random seating to the fur rugs to the stuffed animals on the walls. Great range of beers available and a nice chilled vibe to the place. On our... More
