Great place to eat and drink. Handy for the city.

Super place to eat and drink, and, during the day, a handy oasis away from the madness of shopping. Great alcohol shop downstairs. Can be a bit over-trendy in the evenings but that's only a small niggle. Friendly staff and great food and drink

Crazy but brilliant bar - you'll be spoiled for choice with the great range of beers and delicious food (beer and cheese soup is a revelation!) It's a really sociable place as everyone ends up sitting together at a haphazard assortment of tables. The beer and spirits shop downstairs is not to be missed either.

Seek this place out if you find yourself thirsty and in York. The bar itself is above a fascinating bottle shop. The place is tiny and so quite busy, but that lends the place quite an atmosphere. There is a dazzling array of cask and legged ales, ciders, and lagers. All served efficiently by uber cool and friendly staff. We... More

Great place that looks like an off licence from the outside (that is because it is) and the bar is upstairs. Great bar, great atmosphere and very friendly staff and customers - lots of conversations with total strangers.

You could quite easily pass this place and you wouldn't know it. The front of it is an up market craft beer shop and spirit shop. I've never seen the quality and choice like this before. Go to the back, up the stairs and you enter a bar that could quite easily be a time portal to a bar in... More

We went here based on Rick Steves's mention in his guide book, and we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere really pushes this place into the higher level beyond your average pub fare. The walls are covered with bizarre taxidermy, and the architecture feels like it's been the same since Richard III's time. They specialize in beer, so in the shop, you... More

I adore this pub! Great selection of international beers, in particular my personal favourite: Delirium Tremens. The room is tightly packed but cosy all the same and features animals heads on the wall! The food menu isn't huge but offers some great pub grub including the Hunter's Platter! Delish. Brilliant for a catch up.

This pub is not large by any stretch of the imagination, in fact is like an off licence downstairs. However the ale and the atmosphere were a real treat. The pub serves almost tapas like snacks coupled with a range of unusual real ales, ciders and high vol alcohol content beers. The staff were a delight to watch, never getting... More

Have never visited a pub like this before. Drinks selection that I have never heard of. If you like a change and try out very different brews, then this is the place
