This a really understated restaurant from the outside. You wouldn't think that you would find such good quality food in this tiny building hidden away from the centre. Everything from the food, wine and service was fantastic. I was so impressed. I would happily travel 4 hours up north just to visit them again. Make sure you go!

I would have loved to have been able to review this restaurant, but unfortunately I can't as despite making a reservation for my wife and I last month (April) via Quandoo, for an evening next August, I have just received an email from Quandoo saying Nineteen has had to cancel my reservation. No explanation, not even the courtesy of being... More

Visited recently and although it was quiet the host was excellent. Dinner was nice and a seat at the window is a must if you like people watching.

On the whole we enjoyed our evening here. The restaurant is very quaint and the staff were very good. The steak was cooked beautifully and everything tasted amazing! The only problem is I can't see myself returning this financial year as the menu is incredibly over priced and the portions are small considering. There are similar restaurants in York that... More

Visited 2nd April for dinner. Excellent steak cooked to perfection, melt in your mouth. Service good and unassuming. We haven't been here for a while, it has gone off our radar for some reason. We will return very soon.

All rather disappointing considering this restaurants overall rating. Staff were very helpful but chef please take note of the following points. The gin cured salmon starter was tiny and for the price was a complete ripe off... sorry. The black pudding scotch egg whilst perfectly cooked was coated in such a very thin layer of pudding that you could hardly... More

Simply put, delicious food and lovely staff. I had the mushroom risotto, one of the best I've ever had, and my partner had the fish pie which he also said was lovely. The coffee was also one of the best I've had in a while. Definitely worth a visit.

Our family group of 10 met for Sunday lunch. There are 3 picky eaters amongst us and our requests were met with a smile and an attitude that nothing was impossible. The restaurant is quite pricey and the portion sizes very small but the food is presented so beautifully and is of very good quality that for a " once... More

Dear Sir, Thank you for taking the time to review your dining experience with us at Nineteen. Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.
