Very good fish and chips but had to queue for a table. Excellent portions and reasonable value. Prefer the quayside which you don't normally have to queue down the street for a table.

Normally put off by the queue to get in it has been a while since we visited the Magpie but as there was only one couple waiting we decided to wait and we weren't disappointed the meal was lovely the drinks were a reasonable price and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant could do with a bit... More

Not a review for the cafe but visited the Magpie cafe street stall by the harbour, expecting the same high standard as the cafe's reputation leads you to expect. Unfortunately not to be as although the scampi was excellent and piping hot, the chips were unappetising and almost cold. Probably should have returned them but would have entailed a walk... More

This cafe has a reputation. The world knows it's reputation and this leads to queues outside at weekends. My trip to Whitby midweek in the middle of September in the rain was probably the most likely time to get in without a wait. This was successful. However it was very busy inside upstairs and down. It is 18 months since... More

Good fish and chips served by efficient staff in well organised restaurant. OK so its not fast food but there is plenty of that elsewhere in Whitby.

As somewhat of a glutton when it comes to fish and chips, but also a contrarian who doesn't like queueing, I had been putting off trying the Magpie Cafe. There is no shortage of good sit-down fish and chips in Whitby, and I have tried several of the alternatives. Actually the Magpie was rather good. Large portions, well cooked, and... More

Annual visit to the Magpie, never fails to disappoint. My partner had a fish stew that she drooled over, I had mini haddock and cod, was delicious. Waitresses and till lass really nice. Sadly, visited the takeaway a few days earlier where shop staff where disinterested, surly and rude. Preferred to nip off for a fag break. No customer engagement... More

Heard all the hype, saw all the queues before so delighted to be passing wityh no one queuing! Small fish n chips each (it was huge!) Mushy peas and curry sauce one portion of each is plenty for two. Ended up with a nice glass of Sayvignon Blanc with iut. Delicious! Well worth the money.will nbe back!

We came here the other day for lunch. We were sat down quickly and our order taken. The fish and chips were cooked to perfection. The place is always busy but work a trip.
