Great authentic place for wine-lovers, always full of people (so be prepared for a queue and don't hope too much to find available table immediately), a little bit noisy and crowdy but the atmosphere is great and you can feel the spirit of time (and that is why it might be considered as a tourist attraction in a good sence).... What a lovely place for a drink. We went as two couples and had a great evening with a real buzz of an atmosphere. We sat downstairs under a brick vaulted ceiling drinking wine and eating their 3 cheese platter with Parma ham and Scotch eggs. Such a nice place it's definitely worth a visit and we will be going... We had been here before for a birthday do and enjoyed wine and bar snacks. Our latest visit was for a Sunday roast and as the weather was okay, the four of us took a table outside. We took (it's a carvery system) lamb and chicken with all the trimmings and the general view was that it was okay. The... More

Amazing old wine bar near Playhouse Theatre where we had a couple of very reasonably priced pre theatre glasses of wine sitting outside in the sun. Extensive wine, Port and sherry selection. Fabulous!

Gordon's is the oldest known wine bar in London. ( No beer, spirits, only wine) situated in a low vaulted cellar, the noise level is unbelievable so don't go for a quiet romantic evening! Looks unchanged for centuries - fascinating graphics on darkened walls. Very crowded tables and as you can't book, it's pot luck. We got there at 5pm... More

Situated in the Charing X area of the City,Gordon's is a very busy "Wine bar"with a great selection of wines and a reasonable food menu. My only complaint is that it is so busy at lunch and after work that I could not have a proper conversation for the noise of those city types letting off steam. Maybe I'm past... More

I've been here about half a dozen times over the last few years - it seems to just be somewhere I always end up with friends if I'm up in London. The proof of the quality is how busy it always is, as in the whole time I've been coming I don't think I've once managed to get a table... More

We got here early to get a table as we've tried before and had to go elsewhere as it gets very busy. Great choice of wine available, and the cheese choices are also brilliant, and really good quality. Best of all, a lovely environment to sit and chat; you feel like you're in the depths of old London.

Gordon's is like that secret bottle of Scotch you keep behind the Dickens at the back of the book case for "special" occasions. It's impossible to find (a boon for those in the know) and can only be accessed by the brave and the resolute (it's down an unpromising flight of stairs). But for the adventurous, a sub-terrainian world of... More

Been here on several occasions and never disappointed, had a couple of bottles of wine together with a Beef Salad, such a large plate, we shared the platter.

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighborhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
