Had a tasty lunchtime meal with a great pint of Theakstons Old perculiar. The food was a bit on the pricey side but was tasty enough. The pub had a few fires going and was friendly and cozy. Good to pop into if taking a riverside walk from Fulham/ Hammersmith.

I recently heard about the regular wine tasting dinners put on by the Black Lion and the price seemed very reasonable so my wife and I booked to attend this one which was about the food and wines from the Piedmonte area of Italy. A local dining club had also opted to attend on this particular evening so the place... More

Went to the November Cocktail Night (1st Thursday of each month) with friends from work and had a great time. It was held in the skittle alley (no skittles on that night) and Chris (the manager) had set up little tables on each side – there were about seven groups of us – all keen to look, learn, drink and... Roast beef two thin tasteless grey slices, reheated potatoes, cold tastless veg £16. The old management served brilliant food, this new guy has no idea what a good meal is.

Dear Trip Advisor Reader This is not a response to this reviewer, this is Information for you. First look at the previous review for an unbiased response to our Sunday roasts, Then look at my responses to other poor reviews - we are human, mistakes get made and I respond accordingly, and I think sensibly. Went for a family dinner on a Sunday afternoon. The staff treated us like royalty. The food was top quality(I recommend the calamari as a starter) the roast was huge, I had to take some home. It's right by the river so you can walk off your Sunday lunch. It's quirky in terms of decor which makes it feel really... More

Hi Nicola Thank you so much for your review - I was away on holiday when you dined, so it is brilliant to get feedback like this in my absence; maybe I should go on holiday more often? ;-) More

Nice pub, interior and design and location by the river. Disappointing bits for me was the price of the Sunday roast beef I thought was too much (just under £16) also the amount of beef actually served was only two cuttings and.. (thin) if I pay that much I'd expect much more for my money to be honest. If they... More

Hi Samuel I apologise, are portions are normally bigger than you describe. I shall have words with our chef and get this corrected. Please book Sunday roast again, and I shall make up for yesterday's poor value. Thank you for the kind comments about our attentive service, and pub in general. More

Ordered 2 roast dinners, Pork loin & 1/2 roast chicken - veg was raw & cold, roast potatoes were hard, cold & tasted like they had been reheated. The gravy was watery & tasteless, Yorkshire was over cooked. For the pork loin meal the only thing that had a taste was the crackling.the worst thing is we have dined there... More

Thank you for your feedback Paul. I am glad that you have been before and had great times, as Sunday was not the norm. It shouldn't have affected you, but our operational till and printer problems caused our speed and standards slip, and I apologise that it made your dining experience so disappointing. Please, next time you are in, find... More

Had Sunday evening dinner here with a group of friends. The pub itself is lovely, set back from the river with a nice garden and an old interior. It calls itself a country pub in London and it certainly feels like one. Hard to think that the A4 is about 50 metres away. It also has one of the few... More

This pub had a good reputation for its food, and has changed management I believe not so long ago. The location by the river in Chiswick is scenic, and the interior is cosy though crowded around the bar area due to narrow access, but there is good space round the side and back of the bar. There is plenty of... More

Description
The Black Lion is an iconic country pub on the north bank of the River Thames between Hammersmith and Chiswick. History abounds at this wonderful pub - ghost stories, local history and what 'The Black Lion' really meant, made famous in literature and the location of a world famous skittle alley. Our aim is to be a hub in the local community and a comfortable pitstop for any tourists or passers by. Always warm and welcoming The Black Lion combines the tradition of a classic English pub with superb English and British ales and lovely fresh food and a fabulous wine list. We all grew up and have lived in the area for many years and have known the pub as customers long before we became lucky enough to take over at the helm! We are delighted with our local connections through The Skittle Alley, Coffee and Pantry and Little Lake, our own florist and host a lively farmers market every Saturday. And once a year we are the very best place - along the whole of the Thames to view the annual Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race.
