I went to The Empress for a meal after having it recommended. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I was very impressed with the menu, the prices are very good and the portions are really, really great. I am a big eater and was very satisfied. The quality of food is second to none and will definitely visit again.

Best Indian food in the area. Consistently good King Prawn Sizzler, highly recommend. Plain nan and lentils are a MUST. Friendly service always happy to answer you any question yo have about the menu. Give them a chance to surprise you.

We went her on a recommendation and the reviews seem generally good. The place does not look like much but who cares. What was annoying is the service. If you close the kitchen at 14:30, you cannot start being obnoxious at 13:50 and looking us away. The staff was generally uncaring, shortish and almost rude. The food was nice, plentiful,... More

Located at the end of a not so attractive block of shops, almost under an overpass, this narrow little restaurant has some great Indian food. While the prices are reasonable, be aware that everything is ala carte. That said, you can construct a great meal to your liking, complete with a "heat" level. The wait staff is attentive to the... We have been coming to The Empress for over two years now, both to the restaurant and takeaway. The food is consistently very good and the service is of a high standard. The Empress really went the extra mile recently, by continuing to deliver to us even though we have now moved out of the area! Dishes I would highly... More

We had to get an Uber to come here because it was a Sunday night and everywhere else was closed. When we got there we realized they were closing up yet on their website they were supposed to be open for another hour. I notice this is common in London where they close up earlier than what they advertise which... More

Came here following TA reviews as staying in the area. The exterior in the dark and rain is nothing special and the restaurant almost empty. Tempted to walk on by but in the rain thought I would give it a go. Glad I did. Extensive menu with some interesting and unusual dishes. Those I tried were excellent and portions generous.... More

A busy and vibrant Indian restaurant serving great food. We booked a table on the strength of the reviews and so glad we did because the place was heaving. The faces and body language of diners speak volumes and it appeared that everyone was enjoying their experience. Service was prompt and efficient and we didn't have to wait too long,... More

Staying in Whitechapel

Neighborhood Profile
Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.
