I love this place, Its a shame its so far away from where we live. It is very important to make a reservation before you go there as its always very busy and difficult to get a table, We had to wait for an hour once just to be seated. Food is very tasty and the great value!

there is so much talk about this restaurant but the food was terrible, The portions were too small, The chicken tikka we felt was very dry and rubbery; the tarka dhal was okay; the karahi chicken was so ordinary ; the naan bread was nice -rest was just a forgettable meal ; i would rather eat at Saffrons in Leyton... I've been to London many times over the years, but this was my first time out and about in Whitechapel. We were eating early, which was probably a good thing as the restaurant was already busy. The place is popular, so make sure you reserve a table. We were seated straight away and the service was snappy. We got popadoms... More

Ate here last night, and it was packed. I was impressed with the flavour and quality of the food. The lamb chops were tasty, chicken tikka juicy, and plenty of fresh spices coming through the various kebabs and main curry dishes we selected (Karahi Chicken and Karahi Gosht). Rice and Nan bread portions were on the small side, but we... More

Came here expecting something good, or at least your standard curry. Sadly I left disappointed. Service: Extremely unfriendly, in fact some of the worst. Waiter did not even look at us when we ordered, totally uninterested and out right rude. Further when serving had his fingers in my food! Atmosphere: Very busy and a good buzz, althought this place is... More

The food was amazing. Definitely go to Tayyabs if you are in London and want authentic Indian cuisine. The food is good and spicy:) The staff were very attentive and kind. It was definitely worth the tube ride across the city!

When our oldest daughter opted to attend university in London, like most students, she lived in the east and we were introduced at that time to Tayyabs in Whitechapel. It is now a yearly must-visit event. It is large, several floors, always busy and I am never sure how we actually get a table but we do and our group... More

Just amazing in every way. It was like a Punjabi BBQ Banquet with an explosion of flavours. This isn't just a meal, it's a whole experience. We went with our Punjabi speaking Colleague who knew the Staff very well. He ordered everything in Punjabi including all of our Mixed grills, followed by prawns, curries, rice, daals etc. and finished off... More

After a few aborted attempts - probably because of the long queues late on Friday night - we finally got to eat at Tayyabs. Mind you, we had booked and it was a hot Monday night, so the restaurant was busy, but not too crowded and we did not have to queue. Firstly, the food: it is not your typical... More

First off the food is tasty and bring your own booze a bonus. The cattle market vibe lets it down for couples. Also we were told cash only yet saw several others pay by card?!?

Staying in Whitechapel

Neighborhood Profile
Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.
