What a delight! The food, rooftop views of London, presentation and staff are all wonderful. We were there for Sunday brunch and enjoyed the special roast beef with yorkshire pudding of course. My daughter had the chicken with polenta, looked plain and boy was it tasty. The chicken liver appetizer is a home run, my 11 year old daughter had... More

self-service, though wih friendly and attentive staff. pleasant ambience, quite spacious. food unpretentious and inexpensive - soup was good (though not sure how you're meant to tackle the huge wedges of bread, what's wrong with slices?), hot chocolate good, cake OK. certainly recommend for a casual meet-up, not for anything special. superior alternative to Pret over road.

Reserve in advance. The food was very good, the service very friendly, the bill was not cheap. I had a very pleasant evening.

We went for Easter Sunday lunch and had a very good lunch. We were served by a French waiter called Matthews (I think from memory). He was very good and attentive, even though he was very busy. The only gripe was that they ran out of the Chapel Down Rose that we love. Apart from that everything else was very... More

Booked as a 'special anniversary' treat with my partner after a visit in the National Portrait Gallery downstairs. We were not disappointed. Always a good idea to book, as it seems that the restaurant does get busy at peak times and closes at 17.30. We were checked in by a very friendly young lady in the reception area and were... More

Afternoon tea was very good, tasty and well presented. The views are great, interesting to see. The staff were attentive and friendly and deserved tip but I wasn't happy with it being added automatically.

Absolutely loved having lunch at the Portrait Restaurant today. We didn't feel like tourists there. While some restaurants seem to develop a sad routine on dealing with customers, this place was very much the opposite! Very friendly and attentive, caring staff, really outstanding. The food was excellent and the view just wonderful, altogether a lovely atmosphere. We will definitly be... More

We had never visited this restaurant before although we have lived within 2 miles all our lives. We were invited to lunch by visitors from Yorkshire and we were sceptical about a central venue with a great view.We were amazed by the view across Trafalgar Square and we were greeted by very friendly staff to a table where we could all... This restaurant has one of the best views in London situated as it is on the roof of the National Portrait Gallery (worth a visit too, especially the Tudor and Stuart galleries) off Trafalgar Square. The staff are lovely and there's a warm welcome. The menu is unusual rather than nice I would say. I found it hard to choose... More

We'd often heard good things about this restaurant but not visited before last Friday evening . We went without a reservation but although it was quite busy they managed to give us a table quite near the large window with panoramic view of London around Trafalgar Square - facing West. The food was good , - with decent choices of... More

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighborhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
