La Collina
Review
About
Highly praised by Time Out, La Collina serves stunning modern and traditional Italian cuisine, from fresh fish dishes to homemade pastas. Enjoy a fine Italian wine in the minimalist dining room or dine in one of the two al fresco spaces; either the pavement spot or the pretty sheltered decking with greenery and flowers.

This is a hidden gem in London and one well worth going out of your way to visit. With so many chain restaurants pushing out mediocre fare, finding a traditional, family run trattoria type of restaurant serving excellent food is a big win.
Run by a husband and wife team, the menu is a perfect mix of traditional Italian, with daily specials that complement the main menu.
The pasta is all made by hand and is always perfect, with deeply balanced sauces. Main courses of fish or meat are always perfectly cooked and it's rare to ever be disappointed when coming here. The wine list is small as it has to be for a place like this, but is always balanced to the menu and changes regularly enough to keep it interesting.
Patrick the owner is charming, affable and always ready to help or recommend something and to adapt where needed or possible. There is an outside patio for summer dining as well, with heaters available, although some blankets on hand would be a good idea.
This is one of those places that you feel at home in immediately and will want to go back time and time again, as much for the welcome and the atmosphere as for the honest and well thought out menu. Additionally it's dog friendly if that's something important to you.

This is the second time we have visited La Collina and both times we have had delicious food and attentive service. They are very generous with expensive ingredients - when they say ‘with truffle’ you get loads, and lots of fresh porcini in my mushroom pasta too. Exceptional Tiramisu - delicious!

Comfortable, good treatment and very rich. We were walking through Candem Town and looking for a quiet place to eat with our 2-year-old baby. How lucky to find this one. We had bolognese pasta, pasta with mushrooms and truffle, salmon with lentils and tiramisu. Excellent. The baby ate everything.

Lovely small neighborhood restaurant but something was missing?!
Service was good but no connection with its customers. It has no soul. Could have been amazing but ruined with their personality of staff. The icing on the cake was a £2 additional charge for grated in a bowl parmigiana on the eggplant appetizer. Seriously condiments are really extra here. Glad we didn’t ask for more ground pepper!
Buyer be aware!

This aims to be an upscale neighbourhood Italian restaurant, not exactly a disappearing species. Unfortunately the food was disappointingly down scale, even if the prices were not. As examples, a whole sea bream (approx £30) was dry and unappetising, and the tagliatelle alla pesto (about £17) was basically a bowl of pasta swimming in a very unattractive soup of thin pesto with a lump of buratta on top. There are very many good local Italian restaurants but on this showing, this is not one of them. Go somewhere else.

This is a friendly, warm and busy restaurant with a great atmosphere. Authentically Italian. Excellent, fresh flavoursome food clearly fully prepared and executed by competent chefs. Service excellent. Menu not huge, this being a good thing. Definitely recommend

A friendly welcome here at one of our “local” restaurants that we frequent
Outside to eat in their pretty courtyard something we won’t be doing for much longer thanks to English weather which doesn’t seem to be affected by global warming so far .
Peach Bellini , a rather good one here up with the one at browns hotel bar
Pre it’s makeover .
Then pappardelle con fungi with black truffles - I love truffles with that unique
Smell delicious and perfect then both of us pan fried monkfish in pancetta and once again the black truffle to finish tiramisu ricotta and orange tart .
A lovely meal served by friendly young waiters ..
This is a little haven that we appreciate greatly .

La Collina has been a fixture of the Primrose Hill dining scene for many years which says something about the food and service in an area which has numerous places to eat. Situated on a small street near the Engineer pub we had an outside pavement table. The garden is preferred at the rear of the property by most people (it was a period of very hot weather so no one wanted to be inside) though we were fine on the street and it was nice to see life walking by. We found the food very good and enjoyed all the al la carte options we choose. We both had fish mains (note it is exactly as per the menu so select a side if you are hungry) which were well cooked and great flavour. Desert was a fruit tart which lasted about 3 minutes. The is a good selection of wines though prices do climb quickly and for a neighbourhood restaurant we did not find it especially cheap though the standard is good and it made a welcome change. Service was friendly and relaxed - we will go again.

My wife and I have been going to la Collina for many years. It used to be good, now what is served up is very poor. The chicken Milanese was tasteless and resembled cardboard in texture . The menu is sadly limited in comparison to what used to be on offer. Our feedback to the manager received barely any acknowledgement Very disappointing!

Dear Stephen,Thank you for your feedback and your support, our menu is little bit reduced comparing to 2 years ago but not the quality offered even so we are short of staff thanks to brexit. Your remark on the Milanese was acknowledge ,but the plate were completely empty so i was really surprised......of the remark you left on the review.

A close friend who I have not seen for a while treated me to dinner at La Collina located in the famously upmarket Primrose Hill area.
I did not order as I left that to my host, the ambience was friendly, the service very good as was the food and wine. Will return............

Been coming to la collina for several years a reliable local venue for us just 10 mins
from hampstead.
Sitting in their garden sipping a bellini contemplating the menu we thought how pleasant it was to return here after that long break .
All we had was very good , tasty scallops ,papardelle with ragu di ossobuco followed by passion fruit cheesecake and tiramisu .
Welcome back la collina and all the pleasant staff.

I'm confused about those good reviews, sorry but the food is bland, no flavour/cuisine (the main dishes - fish & lamb - were grilled with no flavour or sauce, not even a drizzle; the scallops were over salted and dry). The waiter didn't seem to care much either about our experience. Not impressed.

I had heard great things about this little Primrose Hill restaurant. That plus the prices led me to think we were in for a treat. However the greeting on arrival and service was cold, the food underwhelming and lacking in taste and the atmosphere lacking ... all in all very disappointing and I will not return. Perhaps it was a bad night for the chef. I don’t know but a real shame.

Dreadful and surly attitude from two members of staff. At the end of evening there was a tremendous disturbance in the middle of the restaurant from the waitress who claimed a dog had attacked her. The management lost control of the situation. Guests became involved in the argument between waitress and the dog owners. There was a lot of swearing which almost culminated in a pub style brawl. The staff were rude and lost control of the situation. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
