A not so perfect lunch in a perfect lovely pub and location

Sadly the lovely ambience of this pub was let down by poor food quality and mediocre service ( verging on bad except that I imagine our server was new so I don’t wanna be harsh ) Nothing was good The starter were mediocre - the main ( Smoked salmon sand which ) was inedible and the desert was below average. When combined with it taking 10 mins to get cutlery and futher 5 for mayo to try rescue the sandwich it was not pleasing. The salad was good though. I hope it returns back to its glory days to which it clearly had. They very “ nicely “ said we haven’t charged service as u weren’t happy but still charged for the smoked salmon which was uneaten @ £10. Dew

Fantastic pub... for drinks

I have been to this pub many many times over the years, the drinks and atmosphere are great as always... The vegan burger however was pretty bad this time, dry bun and extracted from the freezer to make up the numbers and crappy chips... you can do better for one of the most expensive suburbs of London, a £15 burger at this level is poor....

Fun but poor food planned by an accountant not a chef

Its hard to get a table and once your finally arrive the service is sweet but a bit slow, but a nice ambience. The main problem though is the food - everything padded out by bread or potato, clearly to save money. Customers arent idiots - we know fishcakes are a way for restaurants to make expensive ingredients go further, and it leaves a bad taste. So many dishes like that - every starter padded out by bread. Chips a small portion and not crisp. A tiny pot of commercial may only brought on request. A beetroot salad with no detectable dressing and paltry supermarket leaves. An £11 cheese plate with just 2 small portions of mass produced cheese but enough crackers to cover the rest of the plate. Times have been hard and we are so happy to eat out again but we feel we are being taken for a ride here.

100ft fall from grace.

This is a place that has fallen so far from its position of grace it has scar tissue and indentations on every limb. The staff appear to be part-time reluctant participants, with almost no training. The environment appears to be in decay, The food is an example of degeneration so great it could be an example for environmental health. What on earth has happened here, and where is the respect for your reputation and the area in which you operate?

Poor review due to covid poor care

My husband and I had a meal here on Friday night. Throughout the pandemic, I have never eaten in a pub or restaurant that has made me feel uneasy in terms of the virus, until this experience. We often eat at the flask in highgate because we live locally (pre pandemic). We've eaten here since the first lockdown but in warmer weather and outside with heaters. The property is lovely, but rooms are small and we were seated in the small room near the toilet with no ventilation of windows and tables too close. The pub was full of student types who were not all wearing face masks. One server was wearing his mask under his chin! It was worrying in these pandemic times. I will not return, sadly, until I can eat outside.

Delicious roast and perfect service!

We had a delicious Sunday roast here today, the portion was enormous and everything tasted great. Even though it was a busy Sunday the service was speedy and everyone was helpful. Staff went above and beyond! Definitely recommend 😊

Still feeling hungry

Me and the better half went for a meal in the garden. First of all in this day and age is it right that a table next to us were smoking all through the visit. As non smokers that was the first thing that hit a bell. Secondly the portion sizes I think I had 8 chips with my burger and the burger 3 bites and it was gone. £15.50 for a burger and 8 chips. Service was slow so overall a very poor showing seeing though it came to £60 including a service charge for not a great service.

Inedible food

Appalling food. Completely over priced. We got a £15 discount but £100 for inedible starters and mains was a complete rip off. Will not being going back and will advise people to steer clear as there are many really good pub restaurants just around the corner. This was a family celebration which was totally ruined. Very upsetting.

Service Over and Above

This is one of my locals so I come here quite regularly. Last night I came for dinner with a couple of friends. Although I had booked the day before for three people in the covered outside area, the host tried to put us on a table only big enough for two. I asked to be seated inside, which we were. Just as we were settling down a party of four were squeezed onto a small table next to us and they were very loud, so we moved again, into the back room. Our server, Cem, facilitated all of this with help and humour. We all ordered the roast beef. Two were delicious, but the third one had way too much fat. This was left on the plate and when the server (a lovely young lady) cleared it away we pointed it out and she showed the manager. Within five minutes she came back, apologised and said the manager would not charge us for our bottle of wine. When the food arrived I was disappointed to see peas mixed in with the cabbage. I don't eat peas. Cem overheard me saying this and organised for a bowl of fresh green cabbage to brought to the table at no extra charge. Finally, we asked if they could do the brownie differently from how it was described on the menu. They obliged us and it was yummy. Our only complaint was that the Yorkshire pudding, although very good, was cold. However, that didn't matter in view of all the wonderful service we got, which is all too rare these days. Many thanks to all the lovely staff at The Flask!

Terribly uneven

It is painful to write this because we have been coming to this lovely pub for about ten years, and in the early years it was a dream: beautiful old pub with atmosphere, wonderful service, perfect location, great outdoor seating on a sunny day. Over recent years, however, the food has declined dramatically, though quality has gone up and down a bit (more down than up though). Not so long ago we had a drink and some appetisers and it was fine. YESTERDAY however was the worst dining experience I can remember. I actually sent my main back, because it was inedible: ‘trout’ with some mush of vegetables and ‘crab cream’ that tasted like mud scooped off the beach. The waitstaff were good, they took it away and didn’t charge us for it (appropriately, as the taste still lingers in my mouth today) and I ordered some gnocchi—edible, but basically airplane food. Every locale can have an ‘off day’, but this was BEYOND. Such a shame for a pub with such great ‘bones’ to be flailing at the basics. Please, Flask, get it together!!

Sunday Dinner

Visited The Flask on a very hot Sunday afternoon. Very busy and happy with the outdoor table I booked online. Lots of attentive staff although some sort of uniform wouldn't go a miss. (apron, t-shirt , badge etc.). A roast would set you back approximately £16. The Squash Wellington was relatively okay. However, the potatoes were very hard like they've been fried or cooked to death. They gave me some more on the house but the issue remained the same. Some more attention on the plate presentation required. Overall a nice atmosphere.

Sunday Family Lunch

Visited this restaurant on a Sunday. We sat inside, but have to say the outside set up looked lovely. The service was fantastic - every team member was spoke to was so lovely and pleasant. As it was extremely hot we didn’t go for the typical Sunday roast, but it was really nice to have a number of other options on the menu aside from a roast! We enjoyed our food. Agree with other reviews that the place is slightly expensive - hence the reason for only rating 4/5 - my mum paid £4.50 for a bowl of lettuce leaves!

Top Notch Food and Service

This restaurant was highly recommended to us and it didn’t disappoint. The food is fabulous and the efficient, friendly staff provided the warmest welcome. Four of us visited here on Sunday on a trip to Highgate Village and we all loved it. When we booked, I explained that I needed a comfortable chair and that’s exactly what was provided, on an inside table as requested. Although very busy, the staff were super efficient and helpful. Having been disappointed the previous evening, with the most awful customer service at the Granary on the Square, our visit here, was relaxing and enjoyable, which cheered us up, no end. The Sunday roast lamb was delicious and when I asked for extra gravy, it wasn’t a problem and promptly delivered. Thank you to all the staff for making our visit so wonderful and memorable.

A brilliant Christmas dining experience!

As a group of 14, we chose The Flask as the location for our pre-Christmas dinner. From the ease of making the initial booking, to pre-selection of our menu choices to a fantastic experience on the day, The Flask was the perfect choice. We had our own private space and the Service was excellent. Good quality crackers were provided with decent party hats. The food was well presented and excellent quality, and we were not rushed between courses. We will definitely visit again.

Will not return or recommend!

Boring menu. Overpriced for what was offered, tempura crab was all batter and hardly any crab and taken off the bill. Barman was not knowledgeable in the handling of an £88 bottle of wine, despite asking for it to be brought to room temperature it was served cold! Not sure what the mess under the hake was supposed to be but it was tasteless. Over all a disappointing experience!
