Promising a warm welcome and fantastic service, the Latymers is a much-loved pub at the heart of Hammersmith. As well as our authentic Thai cuisine, we’ve got a bunch of old favourites: classic cask ales, a great wine selection and a heap of board games just waiting to be played.
A lovely pub that has reopened after the lockdown serving some of the best Thai food around West London and and wide range of colours beers and lagers and a good wine list and I highly recommend this establishment
We have been regular diners at Latymers since it opened, some 30 years ago. We haven't been for some years and thought we were overdue a visit, especialy during the 'eat out to help out' campaign. We noticed that we didn't see any famaliar staff...and the decor was far more plain, with now vinyl seating and the plush decor gone. We wondered if there had been a change of ownership.
We arrrived at 6:30 pm and were offered a drink, we ordered two cokes and were told they were 'tap' not bottle, we said that's fine. Two pint glasses of coke follwed which we thought were generous. We started the meal with prawn crackers, some were soft and had obviously been sitting around for hours. ' Pinky in Blanket' followed, 'spring rolls stuffed with whole prawn' which to me were oriental supermarket freezer fare and didn't taste of anything much. The main was King prawns in fried in a black pepper onion and peppers sauce, The sauce was good but the prawns were overcooked and tough. On the plus side, my wife enjoyed her Massaman curry with tofu.
We have had so many superb meals here in the past and were very disappointed that every part, barr the curry, of this one was sub-standard.
We asked for the bill and had to wait nearly 15 minutes as the waiter did not know how to use the till. The bill came and we noted £6.20 for the two cokes! I questioned this with the waitress and also mentioned the dissapointment in the meal generally. It was not bad enough to complain at the time and I thought the next course would make up for the last. It really was at best mediocre. (Wetherspoons king prawns with sweet chilli sauce on their small plates menu are vastly superior to he prawn starter here and a bargain-recommmended!). There was a descretionary 10% charge on the bill, as the waiters either had their masks under their chin or not on at all, and kept us waiting so long for the bill that we put our coats on, I used my descretion.
I don't know if their attitude was that we were there for a bargain meal subsidised by the exchequer, (in which case with our large cokes and inferior meals we were both hard done by) or that it is always of this standard, but they have certainly missed the opportunity to impress new customers to return, and old ones to continue their patronage.More
Visited for lunch as a family with young child and decided to sit outside in a shaded area. Great drink's service and delicious Thai food. Care was taken re social distancing and we had a lovely lunch at The Latymer's.
On a cold day I stopped in around lunchtime Only had a couple of beers and watched the bar become crowded with customers who had come for the Thai menu The kitchen was doing a roaring trade Went back a few days later and again...it was packed Could not get a seat but enjoyed the beer and the great serviceMore
