Had a nice chicken madras, mushroom rice, onion Bhaji. Very good food - I especially liked the discoid (rather than spherical) onion bhajis - too many places do them as big tennis ball size dollops but these were lovely and flat and crispy. Bottle of kingfisher and shared a bottle of quite pleasant Pinot noir. All in all great food.... More

Do you want a restaurant with great views? Then don't go to Silka, it's in a basement under Borough Market. Do you want great Indian food where the flavours aren't merged to mush? Then DO go to Silka. The service is prompt, the menu and wine list are wide-ranging and nothing is outrageously priced. It's enough of a revelation that... More

Three of us came here for a quick after work meal. You go downstairs, there are no windows and the fittings are all basic and functional. But you do notice that the kitchen is open to the dining area so you can see the chefs at work. The menu was a little un inspiring and it all seemed a little... More

A great restaurant to grab an Indian meal if you're in the London Bridge area. The grills are probably better than the standard curries. The chicken in my 'Chicken Chilli Fry' was a bit tasteless, but there was loads of it and the dish itself was nicely spiced. Really good rice and naan. Onion Baji's were big and quite good.... More

13 of us enjoyed a team meal here, food was good, but not great, service was ok and the place was fine albeit the toilets are a sea of mirror ! Would I return yes but only if other options were exhausted I hoped that as the area attracts foodies this would be really up on quality and style, unfortunately... More

With Borough Market being one of the top spots for one off unique restaurants in London I was expecting great things from the only Indian restaurant within the market. How wrong I was. I should have turned and walked out when I saw there was only one other couple in the entire restaurant. The decor is tired and dated, the... More

Good ingredients- staff friendly. Food is so so it feels like authentic cooking despiced to avoid offending. It is just too bland, the balance of flavours, textures and colours that makes this cuisine so great is not really there- a watercolour not an oil painting

Myself and a group of us booked the entire restaurant for our office party, around 50 people. Firstly the owner was incredibly rude, not responding to email and resorting to phone calls where he told us that although the food we wanted to order (we fashioned our own set menu as they would not provide) was less than £22 a... I was tasked with finding a restaurant for a group of eight a few days before Christmas. Based on reviews here I booked this one, so I now I fully duty bound to review it so that others don't make the same mistake! Steps downstairs into a basement restaurant, although they have dealt with the lack of light quite well... More

This restaurant is a three star restaurant, but loses two of those for the dishonest practice of charging a huge surcharge for someone taking your order and clearing the table. If it is listed it is in VERY SMALL PRINT!!!!!. The restaurant was pretty empty which is never a good sign. The dishes were small and bland. The guys serving... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
