Had happy memories of this lovely old place with great views. Sadly now modern. Impersonal and overpriced. Menu inflexible and manager very complacent in response to criticism. Lots of choice in area .... Won't be going back.

Hello Judy, I am sorry that we did not live up to your expectations. Yes, we had an extensive refurbishment over a year ago as we felt that the place looked a little tired and needed a bit of TLC. We have tried to do this as sympathetically as possible and it has been welcomed by almost all of our... More

This pub/restaurant was located on the North bank of the Thames near to Blackfriars bridge. It was really clean inside and the views across the river were very impressive. The menu is fairly extensive for a City pub including Fish & Chips, burgers and Pizzas. The food was well cooked and a clue to that was the wait of maybe... More

Not good value for money, even in London. 10oz steak was a laugh, more like 6oz. Chips were hard and the peppercorn sauce was a tiny thimbleful that tasted like gravy granule gravy with peppercorns in. This, for 2 people, cost us £50! Sad to say that we dined at a Wetherspoon's and ate the same meal for half the... More

Hello Hummybee, I am so sorry you didn't enjoy your meal with us. I have taken this review to our head chef who assures me that all steaks are weighed and there is no Bisto in this house! But clearly something went wrong here and I am really sorry we weren't able to fix this on the evening itself. Kind... More

Very friendly staff that took care of find us a table in a quiet spot in the back but with a view of the Thames. The atmosphere was very good and busy as it was friday after work and busy with the London croud.

A great location with views of the river. I can't fault the buffet food dishes, they were some of the best I have experienced. The only reason for less stars is the rooms layout and furniture, which also lacked atmosphere. Worth a visit on the whole.

Hello Eurodiner, Thank you for your review - delighted to hear that you enjoyed the buffet, I shall pass this on the head chef. Sorry to read that you thought the rooms layout wasn't right but please bear in mind that this would have been discussed with the host as to how the room was set up - each function... More

Visited here after a meal in a nearby restaurant. Looking for a cocktail bar off the beaten track. Found this one and was glad we visited. The cocktails were reasonably priced as well as nice. We've both liked the atmosphere in the place and design. Service was quick, although there were not many in there at the time. We liked... More

We saw a board advertising this pub down Stew Lane with a view of the river at the end..... what a find! It is a second level bar, nicely decorated and popular with your city types, but for me, the highlight of the visit was finding the tiny outside balcony, which can fit only about 10 people on it but... On Sunday 14 August I held a private lunchtime birthday party for family and friends at The Pepys. The event was a great success and everyone enjoyed it enormously, especially the relaxed atmosphere and the iconic view across the Thames to the Shard, the Globe and Tate Modern. The celebration was organised by Abbie, the General Manager, for whom nothing... More

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
