The food is quite nouvelle cuisine style with emphasis on presentation and taste as opposed to quantity and heartiness, so if what you want is an elegant meal with glorious views over the Southbank lit river Thames, with very good (but not overbearing) service, then Skylon is for you. Our waiting staff Milos and Noelia looked after us beautifully. A... More

Went to the Skylon as a surprise for my boyfriend's birthday. When I rang up to book they said they couldn't guarantee a window seat but they would try their best as they knew it was a special occasion. They did this and the views were stunning. The staff were so friendly and did all that they could to make... More

My friend and I had a spontaneous night out, so nowhere booked or planned! We just wanted to go somewhere chilled with good food and drink. We were in the Waterloo area and found a place to eat but unfortunately an Hours wait!! So we carried on walking and I saw the Skylon sign and I said to my friend... More

Great views over the river and very decent food and wines. Fast service, good location for pre / post-theatre meals with a fixed menu – advance bookings recommended.

After my review in May 2012, I never wanted to return, but someone else booked the Table... I did hope that Skylon may have got its act together, but sadly it wasn't the case. As we sat down at 17:30, we were asked whether we were going to the Show at 19:30. After we said "Yes" we were assured that... More

We eat here frequently as you are inside the concert hall but dine with a view of the river. Convenience but reliably good food and service. Not cheap and we prefer the restaurant end as it's quieter to the café side but both will get you out in time for a performance. Requires booking in advance. The bar scene is... More

Booked this afternoon tea because it only had cakes and desserts which suited my daughter who dislikes sandwiches. The room is lovely as is the view. Really good service, proper loose leaf tea, great cakes. Keen to do it again but seems to be off menu, hope its back for the Summer!!

Went down to London for the weekend with my mum and someone that lives there recommended Skylon to me as I told them I wanted to book somewhere with nice views and the pics on the website made it looked amazing! The only good thing was the food. Was seated no where near the windows so I could have booked... More

Description
Skylon takes its name from the original, iconic structure that was built for the 1951 Festival of Britain and the restaurant's design echoes the style of the Royal Festival Hall during the same period. Situated on the third floor of the Southbank Centre, Skylon boasts outstanding views over the River Thames from its huge floor-to-ceiling windows. The main Restaurant features modern British cuisine, while the Grill offers more informal cooking and a relaxed atmosphere. The two dining areas are separated by a stunning centrepiece, raised bar which is renowned across London for its fabulous cocktails. Executive Head Chef Tom Cook brings a wealth of experience to the kitchen, following time at sister restaurant Pont de la Tour. Look out for regularly changing menus with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients combined simply and imaginatively. Visit the Skylon website for sample menus and further information.

Staying in Southbank

Neighborhood Profile
Southbank
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
