I visited Skylon on a Friday night for dinner with my boyfriend. As a big fan of the Southbank Centre I had wanted to try Skylon for ages and was really pleased we finally made it - will definitely be going back. The food is very nice and priced fairly based on its quality, and the theatre/offer menus looked really... More

The view of the Thames and the skyline especially at night is enchanting, however the atmosphere is ruined by the uncomfortably cold air conditioning still on in October and the lack of variety with both the a la Carte and grill set menu. We waited over 10 mins for the first course and well over 40 mins for the main... More

Found the food more like Pub Grub. The game pie was meaty but very dry and would have benefited from some gravy. The bill mounts up with having to buy the vegetables and wine is pricey. Can get much better value elsewhere

Called in post dinner for a few cocktails. We were given menus with no comments. Having taken our time to choose our drinks, when the waiter arrived 2 drinks were not possible because they didn't have the ingredients - no alternatives were given. We sent waiter away as we decided on other drinks, again the ingredients were not available! When... More

Dined here with a friend and we were both delighted with our lunch. The food is wonderful, the staff are well trained and attentive and the view is stunning. Would definitely go back.

We ate here last night and had a fantastic meal. We had booked quite a way in advance, but unfortunately didn't get our requested table by a window. It didn't really ruin our experience though. Service was helpful and discreet. The crab starter was gorgeous, and both the bass and suckling pig were superb. I wanted the bass but don't... More

We ate here with friends for my birthday celebrations. All of us enjoyed the relaxed informal atmosphere whilst enjoying professional service. The food was good especially the tuna starters .The tuna was so fresh. The mains were good but not outstanding I had duck which I asked for medium but was more like rare. We all had desserts . My... Questionable decor / entrance but nice enough when you get inside. Awesome views of the river and London. Nice food and quick friendly service. I really like the layout of casual dinning, bar and more formal dinning which flows nicely. All I all, you're not going to go too far wrong and it's a great place to take "out of... More

We had a 50th celebration yesterday afternoon and could not have been more pleased. Professional service, attentive staff, lovely food and not rushed. We were 12 people with 3 children and the staff were just excellent.

Came for dinner to enjoy a last meal before our family flies home. We chose Skylon because we know the food is great, the beautiful views on London and it is a special restaurant without feeling too stuffy. The food as always was delicious. I had tuna to start which had heaps of flavour and was just the right side.... More

Skylon takes its name from the original, iconic structure that was built for the 1951 Festival of Britain and the restaurant's design echoes the style of the Royal Festival Hall during the same period. Situated on the third floor of the Southbank Centre, Skylon boasts outstanding views over the River Thames from its huge floor-to-ceiling windows. The main Restaurant features modern British cuisine, while the Grill offers more informal cooking and a relaxed atmosphere. The two dining areas are separated by a stunning centrepiece, raised bar which is renowned across London for its fabulous cocktails. Executive Head Chef Tom Cook brings a wealth of experience to the kitchen, following time at sister restaurant Pont de la Tour. Look out for regularly changing menus with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients combined simply and imaginatively. Visit the Skylon website for sample menus and further information.

Staying in Southbank

Neighborhood Profile
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
