Skylon takes its name from the original, iconic structure that was built for the 1951 Festival of Britain and the restaurant's design echoes the style of the Royal Festival Hall during the same period. Situated on the third floor of the Southbank Centre, Skylon boasts outstanding views over the River Thames from its huge floor-to-ceiling windows. The main Restaurant features modern British cuisine, while the Grill offers more informal cooking and a relaxed atmosphere. The two dining areas are separated by a stunning centrepiece, raised bar which is renowned across London for its fabulous cocktails. Executive Head Chef Tom Cook brings a wealth of experience to the kitchen, following time at sister restaurant Pont de la Tour. Look out for regularly changing menus with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients combined simply and imaginatively. Visit the Skylon website for sample menus and further information.

Great view but rather lacking in atmosphere

Service excellent Rather measly portion of sea bass but good beef cheek and delicious crime brûlée and apple pie Very mean uninteresting portion of veg and this rather let the standard down

A wonderful place. I've attended a business lunch and couldn't have gotten to a more professional and amazing place. The food was delicious, the staff very attentive and professional with very friendly manner. We didn't have to ask once to refill our drinks and we felt very discretely looked after. highly recommend for any type of business lunch / dinner... More

Recommended this by some friends and left very happy. Staff were excellent and very thoughtful - even arranged a celebratory plate for our special occasion. Food was brilliant - beef was cooked to perfection. Looking forward to a return at some point but will be sure to try and request a table with a better view next time. Quite an... More

The trouble with the reviews is that there are 2 places to eat here, one known as the Restaurant, the other the Grill. I have reviewed the Restaurant before (excellent) but this time I am reviewing the Grill. Four of us went there for a pre theatre dinner. We were seated quickly but I do not like the seats. I... We arrived early for our table but were seated at the bar. The bartenders were very friendly and our cocktails were amazing. We were soon shown to our table and got the charcuterie followed by the steak and haddock. The service was excellent; our waters were topped up, wine topped up, napkins folded. The only downside was the wait between... More

Four of us went here for a birthday celebration. The one stipulation was " a great cocktail and a seat overlooking the Thames." We got the lot -all of the above plus a very good set meal with a glass of fizz and brilliant but unobtrusive service from Milos and his staff. They even added a celebration dessert for Helen... I booked a table here on a Thursday lunchtime to celebrate both mine and my husband's birthdays. We were lucky and managed to get a table by the window giving a fabulous view of the Thames. The food and wine were excellent and reasonably priced by London standards - the duck perfectly cooked and a delicious beetroot pannacotta. Nothing was... More

We booked the Skylon for for a pre-concert birthday dinner last night. At first, everything looked wonderful: a lovely table by the window, service both courteous and welcoming, the bread superb, and the champagne delightful. But I wish we had stopped there. We both ordered the delicious-sounding turbot with langoustines (£30) off the a la carte menu. It was insubstantial... More

Visited on Tuesday for a pre concert meal. Allowed 90 minutes for two courses on the fixed menu. Service was very slow. Waited nearly 30 minutes to be served starters. Food was good and without any wine, just bottle of sparkling water and a Coke the bill came to nearly £60. The view makes it worthwhile

Staying in Southbank

Neighborhood Profile
Southbank
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
