Interestingly, the Montagu Restaurant, within the 5 star Churchill Hotel, is named for the wealthy Montagu family whose home, Montagu House, once stood on this site, adjacent to Portman Square. In the 18th century, Elizabeth Montagu ran one of the most famous literary and artistic salons in London and encouraged well-to-do women to pursue intellectual interests rather than mere fashion.... My friend visited the Montagu for Sunday Brunch, for an important birthday, with her partner. I wanted to surprise her, so I rang the restaurant and spoke to Michael, to see whether the hotel could arrange for some flowers to be delivered to her table from me. I was asking for a lot, but after looking into it, Michael arranged... More

Excellent food, fantastic service and great atmosphere. As it was a birthday dinner, there was a surprise dessert offered from the restaurant. We will visit again.

Went for Saturday brunch recently and it was a dreadful experience, bordering upon farcical. Firstly despite confirming 2pm by email on 10th Jan, the restaurant had us booked in for 1pm. Not a good start. The buffet was very pleasant, albeit a little random in the items on offer. When it came to the main courses, the choices went from... More

If you like spending hours waiting for your food to arrive then this is the place for you. The meal itself I would rate about a 3/5 and was simply not worth the price for the amount of food you receive and the taste of the food. With the amount of restaurants in London I expected better. Not only was... More

Returned with my team for our office Christmas meal on 15th Dec and yet again had a wonderful time at the Chef's Table. Service is superb, food and wine were excellent and the whole experience was wonderful. Thanks again to all the team at The Montagu and we look forward to visiting again in the future.

We truly enjoyed our first ever afternoon tea. The staff was so great and helped us understand what we were in for. We're guests at the hotel so we felt this would be the perfect place and it was. We booked it on Open Table to take part in a special offer that included champagne, so be sure to check... More

What a great restaurant. The decor is beautiful. The service is amazing. And the food, the food! Just divine. I had the "lamb shank", it was out of this world. One of the best restaurant I ever ate at. If in London again, I will make a point to enjoy another great meal at The Montagu!

They've worked a lot on the image of the food, which is to be appreciated, but I wasn't thoroughly impressed with the taste. Nothing was bad, but didn't feel particularly special either. There are more memorable afternoon tea experiences to be had in London.

I took my husband there for his birthday and we were not disappointed. Even though I do not eat meat, there was plenty of choice for me, and I'm only sorry I didn't pace myself better. I was very full after the starter and main, with no room for the wonderful selection of deserts, fruit and cheese. Still managed to... More

Staying in Marylebone

Neighborhood Profile
Marylebone
Marylebone offers what so many London neighborhoods cannot: a village feel coupled with urban convenience. Much of its success rests in its location. Wedged between the northeastern corner of Hyde Park and the southern end of Regent's Park and with a number of Tube stations within easy reach, Marylebone is as pedestrian friendly as Central London gets. The bustling shopping mecca of Oxford Street separates it from Soho and Mayfair, exclusive Regent Street marks its border with Fitzrovia, and cosmopolitan Edgware Road serves as its western edge. Within this enviably situated quarter are an array of outstanding restaurants (from Michelin darlings to down and dirty cheeseburgers), an impressive assortment of independently owned shops, and some of the city's quietest and most pleasant nooks, crannies and cobbled lanes.
