Many great Japanese restaurants in London but this one is the number one for me. You really do feel like you are in Japan, the service is impeccable and the food is totally spot on. Great sake menu too. It's expensive but worth it

Ok, it's a 2 Michelin star restaurant, but it really is. That was one of my best experience with a restaurant. I just can speak about it in superlatives. I eat a summer set menu, and it was excellent. Fortunately I seated at the counter, and I could watch how the Chef works. Further the perfect foods (really perfect with... More

My wife and i chose to go here for our 10th Wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. We realised on arrival we had been here for a sushi demonstration a few years back and were please to see the Chef still there. We had the tasting menus which steers you away from traditional sushi and it was amazing. The Chef... More

Just another over hyped place , clueless on how it's rated 2 stars by the Michelin guide , it's a failed attempt on a contemporary Japanese food , it lacked everything . The Quality of its ingredients are horrible , and so is the presentation . With their prices set extremely high , and portions extremely small , it's hard... More

Very nice experience, food and service both very high quality, many Japanese having dinner there confirming high rating and authenticity; nice ambience, a bit pricey but worth it, definitely one of the best restaurant experience in London. Forget about wine list and try out extensive list of sake. Get there early cos entrance a bit hidden at the bottom of... More

This was the second time that we have been. First time was sensational and we were worried that the second visit would not live up to expectations. We shouldn't have worried. Equally delicious. Service superb and just right, e.g. not in your face, but there whenever needed. Had the fixed price lunch box, with wagyu beef, same as last time,... More

Umu is expensive, but you get what you pay for and this is the best Japanese restaurant in London. A large plate of assorted sashimi was delicious and beautifully presented. "Japanese fish and chips" was an odd idea, but again perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I wasn't drinking on my latest visit, but I am aware that they also have... More

This is a 2 star Michelin restaurant and therefore was expecting amazing food and a steep bill...., firstly the food is out of this world, I'm fairly new to Japanese food so we had the 7 course taster menu which was simply devine, the fish is superb...., however on the downside is the price, it is advertised as one price... My first visit to this hidden-away restaurant (Behind a sliding door) and a truly lovely experience. The staff are very polite and attentive with an intriguing Japanese inspired menu. Everything is beautifully presented and bursting with flavour.

Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
