Usually it is the case in London that you get a beautiful space in which to dine, or you get good food. You rarely get both..and if the food is good, it is usually bankruptingly expensive. Here you get it all. Gorgeous surroundings, fabulous, tasty food, and friendly, efficient service is thrown in as as well. I honestly hesitate to... More

My second visit to the Rex Whistler and great quality reigns. Visited for the Beaujolais and art event, a great way to spend an evening, incredible to see the gallery so peaceful and empty. Felt very exclusive. A wonderful whistlestop tour around the Paul Nash was the wonderful apperatif to a fab meal. A flight of 4 beaujolais (all exquisite... More

This restaurant is everything you want without blowing a great big hole in your bank account. The decor is fabulous, even if you do not like Rex Whistler as an artist, the service is very professional, the food is mouth watering and original and there is a great selection of reasonably priced wines. It is generally worthwhile making a reservation... More

We were asked 1/ for a £10 deposit per person, 2/ To pre order all our food 7 days in advance? In all the years we have been clients here it's the first time we have to pre order our Christmas lunch in November..... Next year we'll go elswhere!

Well, it's definitely one of those places for the people who appreciate the finer pleasures of life. Not really me, I'm more of a simple guy who can do well with a cheeseburger but could still appreciate a fine meal. They have a very interesting choice of plates including game. I personally tried the venison. It's an experience to have.

This is a firm favourite. Some of the best food in London and always consistent! Great wine list well Priced and plenty of good choice. Good ambience as the room is classic and delightful to sit in surrounded by beautiful artwork. We must book in very soon!

The layout of the menu gives an indication of the chef's approach to the dishes. Each is given a heading which identifies the principal ingredient, the precise presentation is then summarised briefly. The crab starter focuses on crab; it was imaginatively presented, but the crab was to the fore. The venison main course contains a piece of venison, perfectly cooked... More

Traditional English food very well made, recommend venison. Bit disappointed this time, have been here for 30 years. It used to be famous for its rich and cheap wine list, where you could get a Romanee-Conti for bargain price but not any longer. Well worth a visit, into Tate and than down the stairs and turn left. After you visit... More

Recently I had the pleasure of dining at the Rex Whistler Restaurant. To say that I had an enjoyable dining experience would not do it justice. The full dining experience that I had was beyond words. Being in the hospitality business for years has caused me to be very critical of restaurant food and the service standards. But having experienced... More

Originally opened in 1927, the Rex Whistler Restaurant was described as 'The Most Amusing Room in Europe', owing to its specially commissioned mural, The Expedition in Pursuit of Rare Meats by the British inter-war artist Rex Whistler. The restaurant celebrates the finest seasonal British seasonal produce and has gained a well eared reputation for having one of the capital's finest wine cellars. Imbibe Wine list of the year 2014 The Tate's wine cellar has long been famous for its extensive collection of fine wines, half bottles at exceptional prices. The cellar is curated by Hamish Anderson and he is delighted to make recommendations and decant wine prior to your arrival.

Staying in Pimlico

Neighborhood Profile
Pimlico
Time spent in Pimlico is a slower-paced affair than most other Central London neighborhoods. This largely residential area orderly arranged beside the Thames, is a treasure trove of quaint pubs, subtle architectural charms and local boutiques. Here, art lovers thrill at the chance to visit the world class Tate Britain gallery for its collection of British art from the 1500s to the present. For peace and quiet and some downtime spent along the Thames, Pimlico is highly recommended.
