My wife and I attended the “Flavours of the Sea” event last month, which included a tour of the Turner collection. We had a wonderful time, the staff were excellent and the service was outstanding. The range of seafood on offer during the drinks reception was wonderful, the potted shrimp in particular. The restaurant meal was equally as good as... More

An excellent experience from start to finish: professional welcome, good but unobtrusive service, first-class food, and a good wine list. The only obvious room for improvement would be better coffee.

Had lunch after visiting Tate Britain to see the Turner collection. The dining room is beautiful with the historic Mural. The wine list is the big highlight with amazing selection and value. food is classically British and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

After hours of wandering thru the fascinating galleries of the Tate a sumptuous lunch is definitely a must. The historic murals, once referred to as the most amusing room in Europe, is a wonderful setting in which to recover with a glass of wine and luscious lunch. Huge portions, limited but good choices in the menu. More expensive than the... More

If I had a single recommendation for visitors to London looking for a place to eat a lunch in attractive surroundings , it would be to try the restaurants (not the cafes) at the art galleries. Tate Britain did not disappoint. The Whistler room has quirky idiosyncratic frescos across its walls, although we were offered to sit outside on the... More

On the lower floor of Tate Britain is this delightful dining space decorated with celebrated murals by Rex Whistler, thus the name of the restaurant. Depicting the mythical land of Epicuriana where mythical inhabitants are engaged in the discovery of rare and fine food, the surrounding colorful murals set a peaceful relaxing mood in which to enjoy a fine dining... Great indoor seating but what better on a lovely summer day to sit outside. The Sunday lunch menu was compact but had a good variety. Had the cheese soufflé, followed by the Sunday roast lamb which was perfectly pink. Accompanied wines were interesting and different. Desert of chocolate fondant very good too however the accompanied wine of Topkaji was a... More

Had lunch here with work. Setting is very nice and food was good, although one or two of the mains for our large group were a little cool when they arrived, suspect due to the numbers. Service was initially very good, but slowed down when we got to dessert and paying the bill. Well worth a visit, but not 100%... More

Excellent menu, oysters, trout, scallops, chicken all excellent. Superb wine list including by the glass. Lovely surrounding with the option to eat outside. £36.95 pp for 3 courses, excluding drinks. Only downside was that waiting staff seemed to lose interest as time wore on and were not very attentive, preferring to chat with each other out of sight behind the... More

Originally opened in 1927, the Rex Whistler Restaurant was described as 'The Most Amusing Room in Europe', owing to its specially commissioned mural, The Expedition in Pursuit of Rare Meats by the British inter-war artist Rex Whistler. The restaurant celebrates the finest seasonal British seasonal produce and has gained a well eared reputation for having one of the capital's finest wine cellars. Imbibe Wine list of the year 2014 The Tate's wine cellar has long been famous for its extensive collection of fine wines, half bottles at exceptional prices. The cellar is curated by Hamish Anderson and he is delighted to make recommendations and decant wine prior to your arrival.
