We chose to come to Tamarind for a special occasion and the restaurant's design and ambience is fantastic. It did take us almost 10 minutes to get a menu which given the size of the restaurant was not great as it probably seats something like 60 people at any one time. Our starters I would say was no better than... More

I had reservations for Sunday lunch - running late I had called to inform the restaurant of this. I must say the service was fantastic and they explained that the kitchen was taking last orders soon. Despite this - they had waited for us to come settle down and provided us enough time to browse through the menu. Food was... More

I booked this restaurant for my husband and I to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I first heard about Tamarind through masterchef on TV. When I saw the type of food on offer I knew we would enjoy ourselves here. Although this is a Michelin stared restaurant it was not pompous or stuck up. This is Indian food but on another... More

Good authentic Indian cuisine in Mayfair London. We had a tasting menu of which every course was very pleasurable with powerful flavours, ask for less spicy if you are sensitive as the normal is on the bold side but it was fine with me. Service is attentive. Skip the after dinner drinks they were not great.

Make sure you book as this place is very popular. This is Indian cuisine at it's most expensive but the restaurant is fabulous for a splash out special occasion. Service is flawless, wine list extensive and food phenomenal.

I went to tamarind as a special birthday treat and it was wonderful. It is pricey, we paid £175 for two people. We didn't like the wine we chose and the sommelier came over and recommended something brilliant ( French Muscat) and that was amazing. The whole experience was great and I would recommend this place as a special treat... More

Great indian food with subtlely layered spice and aromas presented beautifully with artistic flourishes of colour and garnish. Service is upscale and efficient to complement the quality of the food. This has become a "must visit" whenever we are in London.

When you go to an Indian restaurant and it is full of diners from the sub-continent you can rest assured that the food is authentic. If there is a Mayfair gloss in terms of the setting and service, so much the better. It took a little while to become accustomed to the downstairs room, but the bright, intelligent service soon... Michelin-starred Tamarind presents an elegant take on Indian cuisine from its gilded dining room in chic Mayfair. The inventive menu is rooted in traditional Moghul cooking, with fish, meat and game dishes brought forth from the Tandoor oven in an authentic north-west Indian fashion. Muted tones and attentive service make the restaurant a smart yet convivial destination.

Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
