I dont understand how it has the reviews. I had a piece of fish that was ok, but not £30 ok, the pudding was microwaved for sure and they dont serve tea or coffee, what a joke of a restaurant. Definitely stuck in the dark ages.

Called in at Sweetings for lunch today after my meetings finished early and before I had to get my train back to Devon. I don't know why I bother looking at the menu - Whitebait followed by Dover Sole together with a glass of Sancerre and, since I had time, Welsh Rarebit. All excellent with the exception of the Sancerre... More

This restaurant is stuck in the 1950s. Bland tasteless fish, chips that taste as if they were made yesterday and undercooked peas. It's actually shockingly bad considering the price. Definately not a place for a foodie. The service is OK but they need to bring in a new chef and introduce some flavour to the dishes.

A group of us have been going on a pilgrimage to Sweetings as close to St Georges Day as possible since 2001 in memory of a late friend we used to dine with us at Sweetings before he died. The lunch was exceptional both in terms for the quality and the service from Angelo. The dressed crab and scallops with... More

Really enjoyable lunch. Informal style. Good service. Seafood and wine was excellent. The fish pie was fab. Would recommend a visit. Good ingredients cost money however I still think the food and wine is overpriced.

Phenomenal. Food of the very highest standard. Prices reasonable. Great service. At what it sets out to do this place is perfection.

After watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain where he stopped by to check out the food, there was no way we were going to be in London and not give it a try. We actually got there at a good time in which there were only a few other patrons in the restaurant. It seems like around lunch time it... More

I was very happy at last to have an opportunity to eat at the legendary Sweetings. Was everything I had heard - good, traditional, no nonsense atmosphere, excellent fish and wine Service was pleasant but efficient. Had to forego the pudding (definitely not dessert).

It is a very traditional no-nonsence old-school place, which could be very good for a formal but hurried City-style lunch. The service is very quick, extremely courteous but it is still on a no-nonsence brusque side, which is a delight. The very concept of this place is that the diners are busy City workers who don't have much time to... More

This really is an institution among City folk. It's informal, quite idiosyncratic and the clientèle eclectic though mainly many conducting informal business get-togethers. Always crowded, it can get quite noisy but the food which is seafood is fresh as can be, served simply and in large portions. Real ale is served in Pewter tankards and the wine list has a... More

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
