Situated slight away from the obvious tourist spots, this restaurant seems to attract a core group of mature diners. Food is very good as is the service. Prices are reasonable. I have been before and would go again.

Am a very regular restaurant goer and was expecting good things from this restaurant that a friend had recommended, but found food average (beef carpaccio which was tough, over cooked for starter and then hake for second). Maybe the other choices on the menu might be better. I was hungry so appreciated the very quick service (upstairs restaurant was pretty... More

I have been a regular but infrequent visitor to RSJ over the last 6 years (I've probably been 10-12 times). Sadly we had a very bad experience there yesterday - cold food and bad service. When we arrived nobody offered to take our coats, and it took 15 minutes for a waiter to appear. When the waitress appeared, she asked... More

My wife and I went to RSJ for an impromptu dinner a deux on a rare evening without children. It was a delight, with an interesting and varied menu, efficient staff and attractive decore. My smoked haddock risotto and pan roasted hake were both delicious and my wife seemed equally happy with her choices. But the real star of the... More

To RSJ for post Valentine's dinner, and it was excellent as always. Almost full midweek in February on a horrid winter evening. Lovely husband has been coming here since the late 70s, I first came here in the early 90s. When I told my (86 year old) mother I was going to hold hands in RSJ she said ' I... More

We have been regulars at the RSJ for many years. Never disappointed and can always count on good food and wine and that's what I call consistently good.

I don’t like giving bad reviews – have a look at some of my others if you don’t believe me – but RSJ was so comically inept last week that I feel in this case I have to. My wife took me there for a birthday meal. It all started with a bad glass of wine. I never can quite... More

This place was packed at 6.30pm on a Wednesday night with, I'm assuming, people off to the National Theatre or the Royal Festival Hall (very close). Lovely wine list with lots of organic and bio-dynamic choices. Nice risotto with a walnut pesto and some coffee and out in no time with a not especially large bill.

We went for a post-National-Theatre-matinee dinner after a recommendation on Twitter. Really liked it. Very close by. We were the first in, but it very soon filled up. The food is mostly French. Despite being on new year diets we had 3 course as the food was too good to turn down. Nothing majorly innovative on the menu, but all... More

A hidden gem! We had a lovely lunch which was absolutely delicious ! The special lunch offer was good value and offered variety and choice of freshly prepared and beautifully presented dishes. The cauliflower soup was superb and the roasted hake was excellent . To top it all the deserts were amazing!!! Thoroughly enjoyed a leisurely delightful lunch ! Absolute... More
