Visited for a friend's birthday. Starter arrived with hairs in it. When we complained we were advised "all the kitchen staff wear hats". They re-plated this rather than re-cooking it and re-served the dish which made the main courses late. These had been sitting under the heat lamps so were overcooked. These were sent back . When the main courses... More

This little market stall below the restaurant is amazing. The roast pork sandwich is excellent, the roast lamb not so much as it had to be reheated prior to serving. The lamb could be better as could the watery mint sauce

Reviewing this restaurant very late but it was quite memorable. Atmosphere on arrival was busy, frantic and noisy, although this was received well by our party, really making us feel we had picked well. Starters were mixed for all of us and everything set us up well for a very boring all round order for steaks. Not very adventurous but... More

Great views and light, airy surroundings. We started with Bloody Mary's for breakfast then I had the Full Scottish which was enormous - too big, in fact. The food quality was great but far too much for me to eat. Service was a bit disappointing with language problems leading to miscommunication.

I booked a pre-theatre lunch for four based upon the Trip Advisor reviews and Roast's website. Upon arrival we were shown to our table which had a view over Borough Market. When our orders were taken, one of the party members asked if her order was suitable for gluten intolerant people. This question had to be re-asked three times in... More

A great place for a team breakfast as it's pretty easy for people to get to in the morning. A Full Borough (English) is enough calories to keep you going all day... the Full Scottish is even more calorific! There are lighter options too, juices and good coffee. The restaurant itself is light and airy. A nice place to start... More

We always have breakfast at ROAST when we come to London. The service on this occasion wasn't great to be perfectly honest, we found the food enjoyable, and the waiting staff polite , but we have decided it's not the best value for money in the market area. It's quite pricey even when kids go free.

Roast is above Borough market within the salvaged iron work from the Floral Hall Covent Garden. The restaurant has lots of space and light with white table cloths and black upholstered chairs. The view down onto the market is dirty steelwork and scruffy storage. There is no natural ventilation. The air conditioning is inadequate. Early evening on a cool summer... More

Nestled in the heart of Britain's culinary culture, Roast is a landmark British restaurant in London's iconic Borough Market. Opened in 2005 by restauranteur Iqbal Wahhab OBE, founder of the legendary Cinnamon Club, Roast has won acclaim and awards across the UK. Using the finest seasonal produce from British farmers and producers, many of the ingredients used by Head Chef Stuart Cauldwell come from Borough Market's very own stalls. Spaciously set over two levels, the restaurant seats 120 with a view of our busy kitchen, The Shard, St Paul's and the market below. Alongside the dining room is the intimate Bar at Roast. Loved by diners and drinkers alike, the bar buzzes away until 1am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Every night and at Sunday lunch, live music plays here and sets the ambience across the restaurant. Perfect for all occasions, Roast is popular for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a wide range of events, from meetings and corporate entertaining to spectacular weddings and civil partnerships.

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
