First visit to this legendary place that was the 1st ever French restaurant in London to serve snails & used to farm the snails on the premises. I would say the hostess greeting us on arrival was quite miserable but that didn't stop us from having a very enjoyable time & the decor is just pure French luxurious, opulent &... More

Four of us ate here last night (a Saturday) and enjoyed an excellent meal with very good service. We were greeted at a reception desk so there was no awkward waiting around to be recognised. Once seated at our table water and bread were quickly brought. We started with Asian duck salad, smoked salmon, avocado spinach and pomegranate salad and... More

I arrived at the restaurant on time but my friends were still stuck in traffic so I decided to wait for them at the reception and whilst I was sitting there, the reception lady were having an intense argument with her supervisor over disagreements on work schedules etc. I found that slightly disconcerting and totally unprofessional. I am a customer... More

My boyfriend and I went here for a pre-theater dinner, and we both had the 2 course pre-theater menu, which was reasonably priced at £17.50 pp. Our waitress was excellent in her service - very attentive and always ensuring that our glasses were topped up. The atmosphere was the highlight, as the gentle French music and the dim lighting guaranteed... More

Brian has recreated a great restaurant wonderful food and a fine atmosphere. This is old style food and service with a swagger. The menu is very French. It's delicious

We had a pre-theatre meal, but chose not to take the 3-course pre-show option on the menu simply because we were not that hungry. Instead, we shared a chicken liver pate starter and the chocolate souffle, and each had the tempura prawns on the special menu. This was one of the best meals that we've had in London recently and,... More

We stumbled by This restaurant in soho after seeing a show. Liked it! Very French and a bit "90s", but great atmosphere. Good service. We had the french onionsoup (good!) and confit duck (perfect, order the peas!). Should probably ordered the snails, -it's their speciality-but didn't dare to 😱

We went with friends on a theatre dinner package. The menu was limited but food excellent. The French onion soup is almost meal in it self. Nikki our waitress was superb.

Attended a private event upstairs at Salon Noir and ordered a G&T. The barman used the dregs from a bottle of Tanqueray, topped it up with Beefeater then charged me £10 for the [dis]pleasure. I'll not be returning to an establishment that finds this acceptable. What staff are happy to do in front of customers speaks volumes about what may... More

This was our first visit to this restaurant, and we were very impressed with the ambience, service and food quality. The background French music while we dined was very soothing. Candle-lit tables and old- fashioned décor made this a lovely romantic setting. Prices are mid-range to expensive, but are consistent with the quality of food. The restaurant operates a 14%... More

L'Escargot is the oldest French restaurant in London. However, as a Soho legend, it is very much up to date. Relaxed atmosphere, good food and wine, all reasonably priced. There is no dress code (nudity discouraged !). L'Escargot has been host to stars of stage and screen for many years. Previous clients include, Coco Chanel, John Giulgud, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Ralph Richardson, Judy Dench, and the late Princess Diana. Pre-theatre and post theatre dining is popular and theatre and dinner packages are available. You may just pop in for one course and a cocktail or glass of wine - we look forward to welcoming you.

Staying in Soho

Neighborhood Profile
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
