We went here for lunch as part of a theatre trip which they seem to cater for a lot. Lovely place and close to all he hustle and bustle. Very tastefully decorated and the staff were all lovely. I did find the food disappointing though. My wife can't have oil butter or cream (yes I know a french restaurant probably... More

This place is absolutely fantastic. We had a lovely table in the left hand corner of the front room which is furnished in a pretty grand fashion. We ordered the Duck Con fit with pak choi with garlic/chilli and shared a couple of potato dauphinoise. The duck fell off the bone and was very tender and the dauphinoise was creamy.... More

We dined as a party of 4 at L'Escargot on a Saturday evening recently. We had booked an offer through Opentable off a set menu which was very good value. We still managed to notch up a sizeable bill, mainly down to the price of the wine, but the food and the service were both excellent. We loved the interior... More

Wanted to try this place for some time and was really impressed by the quality of the restaurant Food was excellent and about the right size portions, though very full at the end! We had the pomegranate avocado salad and the pate starters - perfect, followed by the duck and the stone bass. Both excellent desert was very good, particularly... More

I don't usually hang out in central London much, but was attending an event here, Live from Salon Noir. After handing my jacket to the cloakroom attendant I climbed several flights of stairs before arriving at the secluded top floor lounge. The decor was excellent with large antique style mirrors, elegant candles, beautiful persian-type rugs and comfy sofas. The vibe... More

Offered as choice by ticket agency. Had heard of L'Escargot and was amazed at the low price of this meal, considering the venue. Thought we might be treated like second-class citizens, but were warmly greeted on arrival and our coats hung up. Hungarian waitress was so helpful and attentive and very pleasant We both chose the Sole Goujons which were... More

We booked here - as a couple - as part of a theatre 'package': seats + supper. It turned out the perfect end to a good evening. This restaurant drips elegance, just to sit at table here is an experience in itself. We came in at 10:30, when it was beginning to quieten down, picked from the table d'hôte, were... More

My friend and I dined here for lunch a few days ago. The food was fantastic especially the snails and the lobster linguine. The floor staff were all very friendly and professional too. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Well, that's the most important thing isn't it! Ate there four days ago. It's a great little restaurant that served my wife sole goujons which looked superb and apparently tasted so. I had the beetroot infused salmon which was okay but at £10 seemed a bit pricey. I followed that with the confit de canard which was very good. I... More

Description
L'Escargot is the oldest French restaurant in London. However, as a Soho legend, it is very much up to date. Relaxed atmosphere, good food and wine, all reasonably priced. There is no dress code (nudity discouraged !). L'Escargot has been host to stars of stage and screen for many years. Previous clients include, Coco Chanel, John Giulgud, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Ralph Richardson, Judy Dench, and the late Princess Diana. Pre-theatre and post theatre dining is popular and theatre and dinner packages are available. You may just pop in for one course and a cocktail or glass of wine - we look forward to welcoming you.

Staying in Soho

Neighborhood Profile
Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
