Location and contact

L'Escargot is the oldest French restaurant in London. However, as a Soho legend, it is very much up to date. Relaxed atmosphere, good food and wine, all reasonably priced. There is no dress code (nudity discouraged !). L'Escargot has been host to stars of stage and screen for many years. Previous clients include, Coco Chanel, John Giulgud, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Ralph Richardson, Judy Dench, and the late Princess Diana. Pre-theatre and post theatre dining is popular and theatre and dinner packages are available. You may just pop in for one course and a cocktail or glass of wine - we look forward to welcoming you.

Was overdue a visit so dropped in but didn’t stay as it just seemed to have lost that special charm it was renowned for in yesteryear.

Haven’t been to L’Escargot for many years but it hasn’t lost its wonderful atmosphere. The food was very good and the 3-course menu for £21.50 was very good value indeed. The food was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The staff were extremely friendly and...More

One of my favourite restaurants. Always good and friendly service and always good food. The French onion soup is a must, when it’s on. Not cheap but nor should it be.

The most pleasant soho restaurant experience in a long time! Sat outside in the sunshine, drinking a few cocktails and a decent bottle of wine with excellent nibbles! Yes there are 8 chairs outside the front of the restaurant where bar snacks are served. They are more for aperitifs.

If you're relying on Government websites for restaurant suggestions, then you're doing it wrong. Stay at home with a tin of baked beans.
