We loved it here. We came between two theatre shows and spent a couple of lovely relaxed hours here. Loved the dark wood, velvet and candles decor. Food was fantastic, we ate off the set menu but didn't feel we'd missed out at all. Service was friendly and attentive. We'll be recommending it!

This is a classic French restaurant with a reputation of good service and excellent food, so we booked to have pre theatre dinner at L'Escargot and informed the staff of our plan so that they would know about the timings. Dinner was booked for 17:00 and we were supposed to have the table till 19:00. On arrival we were received... More

I went there with my girlfriend on a Monday night for cocktails. We were going for few cocktails and maybe some snails because it should be the place to have some!!!! The service was not welcoming from the beginning . Coming without any booking and just for cocktails seems to annoy the staff a little bit. We had a cocktail... More

We popped into L'escargot having been told by friends it was a good place to drop into for cocktails. We were met by less than a friendly welcome and seated for a 30 minute slot which we were fine with. The waitress was less than friendly and we weren't asked at any point how our drinks or escargot were. When... More

Went here with friends, attentive service, good wine selection, the tartare was well prepared, and the rib eye perfect. Recommended!

Over the last 2 weeks I have been very disappointed with some restaurants and their definition of good food and service - I was becoming very jaded - however my evening at L'Escargot has revived my passion for going out and will definitely be returning. The restaurant is very well located in Soho and has a natural warm charm, I... More

We have a special place in our heart for this restaurant, having got engaged there 13 years previously. Another delicious meal, with lovely wine. Unfortunately the waiter spilled my husband's drink over his shirt. It was no problem, these things happen, and he kindly took the cost of the drinks off our bill. My husband also did not get the... Booked a table for 22.30 on a Tuesday evening. Busy - not loud. Service was perfect Staff made pleasant small talk, suitable recommendations and were very welcoming. Food was delicious - not overpriced but was a fine dining experience

The snails were excellent, loads of garlic and just how they should be. The cassoulet was a little disappointing, not enough liquid left and a slightly weird crusty top. Had a very nice bottle of Gigondas (2012) at £58, not cheap but just about worth it. The others had, steak tartare (good), sole goujons (ok), French onion soup, (good but... More

Description
L'Escargot is the oldest French restaurant in London. However, as a Soho legend, it is very much up to date. Relaxed atmosphere, good food and wine, all reasonably priced. There is no dress code (nudity discouraged !). L'Escargot has been host to stars of stage and screen for many years. Previous clients include, Coco Chanel, John Giulgud, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Ralph Richardson, Judy Dench, and the late Princess Diana. Pre-theatre and post theatre dining is popular and theatre and dinner packages are available. You may just pop in for one course and a cocktail or glass of wine - we look forward to welcoming you.

Staying in Soho

Neighborhood Profile
Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
