This is half restaurant, half takeaway, but the food is cooked fresh and is no-frills good. It's very traditional Lebanese-English food - think grilled meat, houmous, aubergine cream, beans, felafels and kibbeh. We paid about £10 a head for mix starters (lots) and a large selection of sides with a main each.

A friend and I enjoyed a late afternoon snack at this simple, plain restaurant which serves delicious fresh food. Lovely mint tea, crispy steamy falafels, moutabal, hummus, tabouleh, all tasty and prettily presented. We'd read good reviews, hesitated slightly when we arrived because the front area of the restaurant looks like it does mainly takeaway food, but were glad we... More

Ali Baba, with its humble and homey atmosphere really makes you feel like you are eating in the dining room of an Egyptian family home. The food is plentiful, filling and authentic - the best I have tried outside of Egypt. The service is quick and the food fresh. Very nice for a quite dinner or to introduce friends to... More

We went during the month of Ramadan, so we had no problem finding an empty table. Service was excellent and the food that was served (foul medames, taamia and salad) tasted really good.

Service was slow. Staff were not very interested in customers. Our group shared 5 different starters and they were all very nice. Quality of main course dishes was variable. I had lamb with rice. The lamb was meat on the bone, tender but not seasoned. The rice with nuts etc was dull, unseasoned, luke-warm, sprinkled with very few nuts and... More

I have been to this resturant many times, and never had any bad experience in there. The food is great (Egyptian). On top of that , their prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food.

This small family-run restaurant has a homely atmosphere and serves the best Egyptian food I have tasted out of Egypt. The molokhia was perfect and the falafel the best I have ever tasted! Good, friendly service especially from the Lady (owner's wife). Do visit!

Staying in Marylebone

Neighborhood Profile
Marylebone
Marylebone offers what so many London neighborhoods cannot: a village feel coupled with urban convenience. Much of its success rests in its location. Wedged between the northeastern corner of Hyde Park and the southern end of Regent's Park and with a number of Tube stations within easy reach, Marylebone is as pedestrian friendly as Central London gets. The bustling shopping mecca of Oxford Street separates it from Soho and Mayfair, exclusive Regent Street marks its border with Fitzrovia, and cosmopolitan Edgware Road serves as its western edge. Within this enviably situated quarter are an array of outstanding restaurants (from Michelin darlings to down and dirty cheeseburgers), an impressive assortment of independently owned shops, and some of the city's quietest and most pleasant nooks, crannies and cobbled lanes.
