After trying out steaks, dogs and burgers, and fish and chips in our recent trip to London, decided to try a chicken meal instead. Didn't want the usual fast foods KFC or Nando's, decided to search and located this food joint about 10 minutes walk from Highbury and Islington Station and no regret coming all the way here even though... Had Sunday lunch there with our son and his wife. Can't fault it. The food was so delicious. The chicken was cooked to perfection, falling off the bone and very juicy. We also had spuds, beans and a couple of salads. These were great too. We'll definitely be returning.

Roast chicken is the only 'main' and it's fairly good, but then there's no reason to come back here a second time, as this is something one can easily make at home. A pretty brave selling point for a restaurant. One wonders how many customers will return after the first visit. There's a small selection of sides and starters. Service... More

It's good quality chicken - but portions are small so extras are needed. The chicken was good, but potatoes a bit hard. Highlight was the lentils. The £17 pp price tag for 2 courses is really more like £23 pp when extras are added on . Add in some drinks and it's more like £35 - £40 pp, when service... More

This is one if those places you don't want to recommend to widely as you wouldn't get in! Simple and effective menu. Quality food, great prices. I haven't booked and haven't got a table a couple of times..... But they do takeaway!! When it's my turn to cook, I outsource to leCoq!! I defy you to be disappointed with this... More

When you say the name out loud, it sounds a wee bit naughty (wink wink), but "coq" in French is rooster. Or essentially, it's just chicken to us normal folk. Le Coq specialises in rotisserie fare with spit roasted chicken as the main feature, with a weekly changing mix of meat and veggie options. I guess it would be predictable... More

The restaurant is designed to provide a casual experience with fairly decent service but I had the impression they are stuck to basic treatment rather than a true interest in customer satisfaction. Let's start with the positive things: - do order the rotisserie potatoes; perhaps the best I have ever had in London. Rosemary and garlic flavours are a bit... More

It could be great, the potatoes are delish, but the star of the show. The chicken. Is just average, rotisserie style should be falling off the bone, but its generally a hackathon. Tried it twice.. wont be thrice

I visited Le Coq for a small family get together. It is well located off Highbury Corner, easily accessible by bus or tube, has an airy, farmhouse feel to it and the waiting staff are very nice - welcoming and efficient. Unfortunately, that's where the positivity ends. I find it breathtakingly arrogant for any restaurant to decide what it's customers... More

Dear Owen, Thank you for your review and highlighting to us your issues with your recent meal at LeCoq. I’m really sorry that it didn’t meet expectations and that you were unhappy with our limited menu. LeCoq serves a two or three course set weekly changing menu with a choice of three starters and three puddings but indeed with just... More

Welcome and service friendly and very good. The menu - a choice of 3 starters and 3 puds surround the main course of rotisserie chicken. The chicken was excellent, moist and very tasty, accompanied by interesting veg (turnip and prune dauphinoise) and side (broad bean and turnip tops). A very good crumble to follow. Wine by the glass, carafe or... More

LeCoq is a rotisserie restaurant in Islington. It serves delicious & succulent truly free-range chicken reminiscent of the street markets of France alongside luscious sides and the best roast potatoes in London. The seasonal two or three course set menu changes weekly and on Sundays the spits are shared with other rare-breed meats and line-caught fish. The best of LeCoq is available for takeaway and office delivery. There is also a Private dining room for more intimate group gatherings.
