A fine dining Chinese attached to the St James Court Hotel. We’d booked for midday Saturday (opening time) and were the only diners for almost an hour. We were seated in the love booth which was a lovely small elevated table. After much deliberation we selected the £80 per head set menu. Not cheap but a lovely selection of dishes as can be seen by menu attached. The taste of everything was excellent and we had a lot of variety. Personal favourite was the Tai Chin Kai coated chicken with garlic, chilli and oyster sauce. We also decided to wash down with a very nice bottle of house fizz. Service throughout was very professional and warm, especially from Palpasha. She also made sure we were able to leave at the time we needed so we could get to a show (she’d even set an alarm to remind us). Felt a special place to go and I’d imagine it could be a great place in the evening.

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here on our London trip. We were greeted by the lovely Rei and Dexter and seated in an intimate and cozy alcove. As we are not too familiar with ordering at a dim sum restaurant Dexter helped us order a realistic number of dishes which ended up being the perfect amount for us. We had a very good and affordable Portuguese wine from the Alentejo region to accompany an excellent selection of food. Rei, Dexter and the rest of the staff were very attentive and the waiting times were nearly non-existent. We can only recommend the restaurant and will come back during our next London visit.

House of Ming is a restaurants by Taj Hotels. It's also present in India and now I can say after dining at this one, that both are equally amazing. We came her for a birthday celebration. The service was really prompt. We were waited on by Dexter and Rie. They were amazing from the start. Dexter guided us through the menu, recommended dishes that we would like best and his suggestions did not disappoint. Finally we concluded with Melting pot that I had picked myself, which was a bit too sweet for my taste. After this we had a matcha green tea cake come in for the birthday boy. The staff sang birthday song. After every meal, the plates and cutlery were cleared up and replaced. The food was served on the plates, and most of all, the taste was better than any Chinese shop food we've had in ages. Possibly because it was Indo chinese style preparation. Loved the experience.

This experience was poor. The restaurant is really part of the Indian Hotel adjacent and I assume aimed at servicing hotel guests primarily? It is the first "Chinese" restaurant I have visited which apparently has no Chinese staff at all? Despite advance booking, we were initially seated next to a serving station where drinks were being set up right next to my ear! On asking to be moved to a more comfortable table, we were informed that these tables were only for people eating from a £120 pph set menu! (I saw nothing on the website offering this or limiting seating options). - and this with the table being adjacent to the toilets! Although the staff were pleasant and did in fact move us, it was with the air of doing us a favour "just this once"; rather than accepting that the original table was unacceptable - which I politely pointed out to them more than once. The food was average at best and below average at this price point. Service was polite but "fussy" - with staff hovering to serve dishes to individual plates - rather than allowing us to serve ourselves. All in all, way overpriced, inauthentic "Chinese" experience delivered by polite but intrusive staff. At half the price, I'd add an extra star - but no more than that.

Nice staff & ambience but disappointing food. I was so excited to visit this restaurant after reading all the 5 star reviews, but I should have read the 3 star reviews as sadly they were more accurate. The food was so bland. Dumplings were average, similar to any chain like ping pong or dimt but at this price point should be exceptional. The chicken Hakka stir fried noodles & Singaporean noodles had very little veg and chicken (the waitress suggested we order 2 noodle dishes for 3 adults and a toddler - mistake!) . The chicken dish & prawn dish were small in size. Portions need to be more generous. The food was salty and lacking in taste. Desserts were pretty to look at but lacking in taste (we tried Elements, mango sago & date pancake). Your chef needs training house of ming! What a disappointment and we were entertaining a colleague who had come from China. We tried Noble Palace & Ma La Szechaun - both far far better.

Restaurant with attention to detail, fantastic young waitress who was pleasant, friendly and attentive all evening. Not cheap, but justified because it's London and the quality of the food still seems high. Too bad about the quantities: two dishes (noodles and rice) with sufficient food, while two others (crab and spinach; bbq lamb) were really very small, around £20 for what in the end was more of a taste than an actual dish. We left still hungry. Overall recommended if you want an elegant location and if you are not "too" hungry.

House of Ming offers an exquisite Chinese dining experience, seamlessly blending traditional flavours with modern culinary techniques. The ambiance is elegant yet welcoming, making it perfect for both casual dinners and special occasions. Service by Xin Yue was exceptional, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who are eager to make recommendations and ensure a memorable dining experience. They strike a perfect balance between being attentive and giving diners space to enjoy their meal.

We were looking forward to our visit having seen that it is rated in the top 10 restaurants in London on Trip Advisor with a perfect 5 star rating. Having visited, we now look at Trip Advisor reviews through a more cautious lens as it is hard to tell which ones are genuine and which ones are posted through request of the restaurant. The food here was terrible - they describe the cusine as Chinese with the elements of Indian hospitality, but this is such a mess. The red flags started when they served our Dim Sum INDIVIDUALLY onto our plates, fine dining style. They were doing the same to a Chinese couple sat next to us and they lost patience too and told them to just put the baskets down. Service was slow (although, I add the servers were polite), and food came out cold with congealed sauce. The noodles were inedible as it was too salty and the pecking duck was the biggest disappointment, being small and overpriced.

He showed us the tea they use for the jasmine tea . from the dim sum , appetisers of lamb kebab and lotus root to the lobster and kung pao- it was all good food . Dessert was great mango sago pomelo! really good value for £50 pp if you get Dexter serving it will always be amazing ! After a lot of research we decided to visit the House of Ming for a special occasion. We received a warm welcome and good service. We opted for the taster menu. The appetisers and starters were very nice. Fresh hot and full of flavour. However when the mains arrived there were cold, the meat was tough and the flavours were lacking. We were so disappointed as the start of the menu was very promising. We reported this to the staff with the chef offering to cook us another main but by this point we were ready for desert at nearly 2.5 hours into the meal. Whilst there was an offer to replace a main meal we were surprised to receive the full bill when the mains and side were all returned. I hope this was just a blip. Would we return, I suspect not.

In the vast and unyielding battleground of London's culinary scene, stands an establishment of considerable repute, one whose name echoes with the distant whispers of the Great Wall itself - 'The Empress's Wok'. It is here, amidst the foggy embrace of our beloved city, that one commences a gastronomic journey akin to a diplomatic mission into the heart of the Middle Kingdom. From the outset, the plates, round as the full moon over the Yangtze River, command a presence at the table, each a porcelain stage for the forthcoming drama. Behold the spring rolls, golden and crisp, their ends pointing skyward like the unwavering rifles of our guards at Buckingham Palace. They crackle under the tooth, unleashing flavours that dance, nay, march across the tongue with the discipline and vigour of the Queen's own procession. Yet, it was the sweet and sour pork that truly rallied the senses, a dish that roared with such vibrant hues, it would have outshone the maps in the War Rooms. Each bite, a cacophony of taste, evoked the valiant paradox of a Shakespearean tragedy, both sweet and sour in a simultaneous, triumphant cry against the mundane. The chow mein, however, must not be overlooked. Presented as though it were the delicate tangle of communications lines upon which our great Empire once so heavily relied, the noodles wove about each other in a display of carbohydrate camaraderie, glistening under the lights as if receiving the morning sun upon the fields of wheat in our bountiful countryside. Do take heed, the tea served has seen hotter days in the Sahara, but it arrives with the punctual commitment of the 4 o'clock London rain. A tad tepid, yet it underscores the meal with the understated solemnity of a silent national anthem. In conclusion, 'The Empress's Wok' does not simply serve a meal; it marshals a culinary battalion that stands in gastronomic solidarity. Each dish, a strategy of flavours, each bite, a victory against the humdrum of hunger. We shall fight on against the empty plates, we shall never surrender our appetites. For in this hallowed establishment, we are not mere diners; we are compatriots in culinary arms, standing firm, united by our common pursuit of gastronomic glory. Hurrah!

Me, my wife and our nine year old son had a delightful pre-theatre lunch at House of Ming. Having not eaten here before, we had a bit of a shock upon opening the menu and seeing the prices (£12 for two char siu bao!). All our concerns melted away when the food arrived. We had one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian executive lunch menu, and two portions of the char siu bao, and every dish was all absolutely delicious! I was a little sad that the char siu bao wasn’t covered in 24 carat gold leaf, but it was pretty clear they were hand made. My wife declared them to be the BEST CHAR SIU BAO EVER. I have to agree with her. Our host, Dexter, and his colleagues, were impeccably presented, attentive, and treated us like royalty. The whole experience was an absolute delight from start to finish. I look forward to our next visit.

The restaurant is really nice, but personally I think that the food wasn’t as good as aspected. The dim Sun were ok, but nothing special. The once with fish ingredient tasted almost the same. We got also the Pechin Duck as I told also the waiter, was room temperature almost cold, not very good for a restaurant with this high expectation. The dessert were some more good than the others. The thing that disappointed me the most was the fact that when we told about the duck temperature the waiter sad that they had other clients the days before complaining the same things.

The food is excellent. Everything we ordered was absolutely on point including both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. The service was very fast and efficient. Our server Prithvi made sure to check on the table at regular intervals and have good suggestions in regards to the food. The ambience is very chill and suitable for all kinds of visits. Really recommend you try this place out and make sure you get the dimsums
