About
Following the success of his first restaurant in Vauxhall, chef and founder Ajay Chaurasia has opened a second site in Wimbledon, bringing his own personal take on Indian cuisine to South-west London. On offer is a range of lesser-known regional dishes along with plenty of tried-and-tested favourites so there’s something for everyone at this bright and cheerful restaurant. Chaurasia’s aim is to bring together flavours from all over the Indian continent. Tandoor highlights include Murgh Hariyali Tikka, which is grilled chicken breast marinated with fresh green spices and yoghurt, as well as vegan options, too. Eat, drink, enjoy India.

There has been a renaissance in Indian dining over the past few years, and good Indian restaurants providing more than the poppadum and flock wallpaper cliche are, happily, quite common in SW London. Bombay Delight stands out as exceptional even in this competitive landscape, because in addition to exceptional food, with authentic versions of restaurant standards and of street food such as Chilli Paneer and Masala Dosa, it has fantastic drinks, including popular Indian soft drinks like Limca and Thumbs Up (available in masala version) cocktails, artisanal Indian beer, and fabulous, knowledgeable service. They came out with a cake for my husband on his birthday as a surprise at the end of our meal. Rightly patronised by everyone from families to dates.

I live only around the corner from Bombay and had been looking forward to trying it out. Firstly the host and waiters are great and make you feel very welcome, they were very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. In regards to the food, I’ve rarely liked Indian cuisine in the past but recently I had a high quality Indian meal in north London and hoped that Bombay would be the same and It was! Everything from the poppadoms (fun shapes and colours) to the BBC (Bombay Butter Chicken) was delicious and well prepared. I will definitely be back, particularly for the onion Bhaji

Wow! It started with a takeaway menu slipped through my door and after trying it and thinking if this is what the takeaways taste like, I wonder what the resurant must be like? Well last night I found out, we went to the broadway and was pleasntly surpirsed by the hospitality and professionalism presented by this newly established resturant based opposite the Polka theatre in Wimbledon. I cant express enough how tasty the food was and what a great place to go. If your into Indian cuisine this is a must. Byiriani was super delicious. Well done 5 *

Visited Bombay Delight for the first time, the food was over priced especially the mains and there were certainly some dishes that need improvement. The monkfish Alleppey was very chewy and the curry had an unpleasant taste. The waitress noted that we hadn’t really touched it so they asked us for feedback and was very nice enough to not charge us for it, which was amazing. The chicken biryani was very well presented and tasted very nice as well as the chicken tikka trio. The restaurant is pretty new to the market so I think they have a lot of things to refine, I would also suggest that they really consider not telling there customers about the 2 hours maximum stay especially when they are empty. This is a real put off!

If you want a Instragram picture, this is the curry restaurant for you. If you crave a nice dining experience, look elsewhere. From the minute my friend and I walked into the restaurant, we were made to feel unwanted. Maybe it was the way we were dressed or looked, who knows, but what seemed like the head waiter made us feel very uncomfortable, and we couldn’t shake the feeling that we were just “not welcome”. We were quickly shuffled to the worst table available, and told the place was fully booked so we has to leave "within an hour", despite only three other patrons being in there at the time. What?!....There were more waiters than patrons, and yet we were still rushed into ordering before we had a chance to read the menu. What of the menu? Well, it was uninspired - curry by numbers. The place was built for people to get a nice Instagram snap, with no care or effort given to the dining experience itself. One star for the natural light.

Wimbledon has needed a up market Indian restaurant that serves quality food for years and I'm disappointed that after all the expectations, this place as missed a trick. The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning, but we come out to dine and this is were it falls down. The waitresses are hounding you from the start, just sat down and two of them appeared with pads in hand, we hadn’t even opened the menu. The menu itself is very sparse and whilst that is sometimes good, having only one hot dish to choose from and one side dish made it difficult to appeal to my taste. We ordered, my wife’s chicken starter was very under cooked and had to be sent back, the mains arrived luke warm and my Rogan can be best described as 5 pieces of lamb in a very watery gravy. The owner who told us he was a high end chef said that this was the way it should be cooked and that for 42 years of me eating this dish at other high end restaurants, it was not cooked correctly. To sum up, great decor, awful food and on the pricey side at £116 for two, with not even an offer of a reduction in even the service charge. I hope the owners read this and re think the menu and quality of service or we will see this one follow suit of the others and be closed within weeks.

I booked an evening slot through Opentable. My slot was changed to the afternoon without my authorisation? When I called the restaurant they told me it was not possible for them to alter the booking? I contacted Opentable who told me that the restaurant altered the booking? When we arrived at the restaurant we reviewed our menus and wine. It then took ages to get any staff attention to order food. The staff just seemed to be walking around aimlessly. After waving a few times to gain attention I got up and walked over to the main waiter. The food was very nice but the restaurant is let down by staff not checking on diners to see if they need anything?

Arrived at the restaurant to be very impressed with the inside decor and ambiance ......the tables are also well laid out. Staff are friendly and efficient. Poppadums for starter were served in a basket, but whole and flat which was fine, there is a nice variety of different ones. The chutneys offered with it were insufficient and lacking mint raita, lime pickle and onion salad. Taste wise the food was ok however it was served just warm, not hot and it went cold before finishing which as a big disappointment. My friend enjoyed the onion Bhaji's said they were very good. The Naan bread was quite thin, again not whole served into four, it was also very small compared to other naan's we've both had elsewhere. Happy hour is 5-7pm and we got 6 cocktails for the price of 3 which was great. There is a compulsory 12.5% service charged added to the bill, this of course isn't an unheard of practice but most places reserve this for tables of 8 and above and allow you to choose if you want to tip. We were happy with the service so were fine about leaving this on there. Price wise it's average for the area but the portion sizes were not generous.

We were a family of six that went yesterday Monday 20th March at 7:30 pm to this restaurant. We pre-booked this slot. The decor was okay. The restaurant was almost full up even though it was a Monday. The waitress who served us informed us her name was Janice. She did her very best and was absolutely lovely! She was very polite and welcoming and took care of us to the best of her abilities. A massive thank you to her!! We ran a bill of ÂŁ206.33. The drinks were good. We all had mocktails. We had three starters which were good. The portion size was good. The Calamari was presented very well on a wooden cart! Looked absolutely lovely! Sadly the dinner was a big disappointment... We ordered Nihari, Lamb Rogan Josh, Lamb Angara. All three lamb gravy dishes were very similar in taste. They were actually bitter on the palette. The butter chicken was tasty. The portions of these dishes were ok. We also ordered two masala dosas and were shocked as we were presented with mini dosas for the cost of a big dosa. We paid ÂŁ12.50 We also ordered two Rumali roti that was soft and three naans. We then ordered six cups of masala chai and they came to us in a lovely presentation of being poured in front of our eyes from a lovely golden kettle into cute very tiny 100ml glass cups. We actually managed four sips of this masala chai only. It was a delicious but very small portion. We also ordered dessert and the portion size took the biscuit... we ordered gulab jamun with ice cream and we were presented with ONE Gulab jamun and a miniature scoop of ice cream. An extremely small portion. We ordered Gajar ka halwa and one tablespoon of it was scooped with our choice of coconut ice cream which was neatly scooped and presented. An extremely small portion. Overall we were very disappointed with how pricey this restaurant was and the value for money. What a shame! They do have a very good variety of dishes on their menu.

We arrived at 7pm on a Friday night and when we were seated it was obvious the restaurant was busy and things seemed chaotic. The waitress who took our order spoke very limited English and after some difficulty she was able to take our order. The starters took 30 mins to arrive and were very average. An hour later our mains had not arrived. During this hour, a waitress asked us if we had ordered our mains which seemed a strange question given she had taken her our order. Several tables were clearly upset and complaining about the time their food had taken but I just couldn’t be bothered as I’d decided I would never go back here again. After politely asking several times, our mains arrived. Nothing to write home about and no apology for the huge delay. I paid the bill (with the 12.5 percent service charge) and swiftly left more than 2 hours later. I live locally and will never go back. The whole place is so unprofessionally run and the food very average for the price. Very sad …

Dear Drlush, Thankyou for your review, all feedbacks is important to us and i am sorry to hear you've had a frustrating experience. As you can hopefully see from our other reviews, your situation is the exception and far from opur usual high standards. This make us all the more keen to make sure this gets resolved and does'nt happen again. I appologise that my staff didn't meet the level of service we strive for, on that day the Restaurant was fuuly booked and we were very short of staff due to staff off sick and unauthorised staff absence therefore we had to bring our new trainee to cover the shift. So once agin i appologise if we missed th mark there. As this is not typical of my Restaurant and service. So therefore i would like to invite you and your partner for a 50% discount on dinner and guarantee you will enjoy the dinner and service which i am proud off. I hope we can make things right and this won't deter you from visiting us in the near future. Please know that i will be addressing this review with the team so they can learn from it and do better in the future. Please reach out so we can arrange a day and time. Look forward hearing from you soon Yours sincerely Ajay Chaurasia

We are 4 friends who had a post match meal after the Football. Firstly the big positive was our lovely waitress who engaged with us and was warm, friendly and smiley throughout our visit. We were seated promptly and our drink and food orders were taken quickly. We all said that there was a good atmosphere in the restaurant. Our drinks were delivered straight away. So far 5 out of 5. We had a lovely chat with the Celtic and Gillingham fans on the next table. Around 45 minutes after being seated our starters arrived. Onion Bhaji was voted OK, Lamb chops were good but £8.50 for 2 chops is extortionate and the Samosa Chaat was voted lovely and tasty. The mains arrived about 30 minutes later with the accompanying Naans and Roti. The Gosh Sagwala and Lamb Angara were OK and but both lacked enough lamb to make them a substantial main meal. £110 without drinks and the 12.5% service charge made this an expensive and disappointing meal. On the way out a group of around 6 were very angry at the slow service and being accused of not paying! I only heard a bit of the story so I can’t comment further.

I was seated by the waitress who presented me with the menu, then stood over me while I chose. I felt hurried and under pressure to decide. The menu didn’t have much choice at all, only a handful of curries, a choice of 3 rices and 3 Nan breads but had 4-5 pages of wines and other drinks. When I made my choice she asked if I wanted everything bringing out together which just confirmed to me I wasn’t really welcome to stay very long. To start the popadom basket wasn’t very good quality. Small crisp like ones you get in a bag from the shops and some other bits and one which was I can only describe as like polystyrene. The accompanying dips were very bland and not much of it either, only 3 dips in tiny dishes. The seekh kebabs were tough and rubbery where the meat had been clearly overworked by the chef. The side salad which came with them was also on the small side but to be fair was fresh. The main course was lamb angara, it was bland with not much meat and nothing else in the sauce. It reminded me of a tinned madras from M&S. The pilau rice was fine and the Nan bread was good but again both were a little on the small side. Overall I was very disappointed.

The restaurant is clean and well presented. Lovely interior. The food was outstanding. Best onion bhajis I’ve ever had. The curry, although not a spice fan, was delicious. We also got tempted by dessert and I had the chocolate cappuccino which was so rich and moreish. This restaurant although not at the heart of Wimbledon is a short walk from the station and is definitely worth the walk. The staff were super friendly although I think the kitchen was a little overwhelmed as they forgot some of or order but they soon rectified it and it didn’t really put a dampener on our meal as the food was superb. Would 100% recommend this place.

First visit to this popular Indian restaurant. Venue was packed so it’s in vogue. Quite brightly lit which made it feel a little like being in a large canteen as it’s a big open space. We also weren’t sure of the marble tables as opposed to traditional tablecloths but at least they were easy to clean! Very friendly staff including I think the boss. Service was fast to start with but a little slow after the poppadoms arrived and we had to attract their attention at times. It was a busy night though. On the food front , we all really enjoyed the two curries, and the biryani was fantastic. No bland flavours here. Onion bhajis , one of my favourites , were perfect with a sweet tamarind sauce (I think). Perfect naan. Large portions but we ate the lot. It’s definitely on the pricey end - almost £6 for a bottle of zero alcohol beer was quite aggressive , and bill was bigger than we thought. Still, it was good food and service all round and we will return and would recommend.
