We arrived at 5:30 after booking reservations with Open Table. We had 7:30 tickets to the Globe. It was weird that I had a reservation but when we showed up, the restaurant wasn't open. It opened at 6:00 pm. It was a little awkward, but to their credit, they welcomed us in anyway and everyone got to work. I was... More

Had lunch here every day for a week as we had an event hosted here. The food is simply excellent, with good service and a nice environment to compliment it. Highly recommended. Would definitely spend my own money here, looked reasonably priced.

Had a big event/lunch here and was very impressed. Simple food done very well, excellent service and all for a great cause. Pretty reasonable value for central London as well.

Dinner in the function room upstairs was great, about 20 guests. Loads of canapés and two very good main courses. Fish was excellent.

Liked the unpretentious layout and plenty of draft beer choices in a well stocked bar for what is basically still a restaurant.Open plan 'see through' kitchen and cheerful and attentive staff.Salmon carpacchio followed by roast lamb then a good plateful of cheese.Solid rib sticking stuff with a well advertised socially responsible undertone. Only tiny whinge was that it is a... More

I used to come here quite often, always had the same meal... Steak and mash.. it was divine.. until they changed the menu, and I think got rid of the mash or something.. haven't returned, but I will be back, because I can't fault the staff and am open to see the menu again.

Busy lunchtime, the whole table was served at the same time which always pleases me. The food was good and tasty and arrived piping hot. Excellent service, friendly amenable staff. I will be returning.

We went for a dinner at Brigade. Whilst the food is average, the restaurant is a social enterprise which helps provide training for homeless people in hospitality. Worth supporting. Food rating - 3

Thank you for your recent review and noting the social enterprise. I am sorry that the food did not meet with your expectation. I went to have drinks early on a Friday evening and the bar looked quite empty but I was still subjected to a very long wait where staff were having conversations between themselves instead of serving customers. Had one then left.

Dear Jill Thanks for your feedback for which I was exceptionally sorry to read. From the early evening Friday night is one of our busiest, having local businesses thankfully descend on us and the bar is sometimes 4-5 persons deep all waiting for drinks and the team are generally only ever busy serving clients. naturally I will investigate this and... The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is setting the London restaurant scene on fire. Located in the old fire station, built following 1861’s famous Tooley Street Fire and leading to the creation of the first London fire brigades, The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is concerned not just with eating but with bringing people together to build a community enjoying new experiences together. While The Brigade, along with the Beyond Food Foundation, offers catering apprenticeships to the vulnerable, cookery courses, cookery schools for the keen and private dining for the VIP-minded, the centre of this fantastic venue is definitely the bar and restaurant. A sensory experience, guests are met with the aromas of tempting fresh cooking on arrival, the gentle buzz of conversation and attractive, modern surroundings creating a relaxed feel. Combining sophistication and rusticity, The Brigade’s menu focuses on good produce and traditional British cookery, a handful of classics and sharers adding to the mix. Drinks meanwhile are as well thought out as food, with clever cocktails, niche wines and micro-brewery beers making up an intriguing list.

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
